Re: Obama decides not to enforce laws he doesn't agree with

When he took his oath of office, President Obama swore to uphold the Constitution. He didn't swear to defer to another branch of government on the question. He is entirely within his rights to determine that DOMA is unconstitutional and refuse to have his Attorney General defend lawsuits against it....

I vote for flat rate tax. Figure out how much money the government needs, divide it by the number of people in the country, and voila, everyone pays that amount. According to what details are available she wasn't raped. Of course it's all second-hand information so it's hard to say. What I read was that she was stripped, beaten, pinched and/or bitten, had men rub themselves on her and masturbate on her, but was not penetrated.

Well.. there is a prohibition against ex-post facto criminal prosecution in the Constitution. You can't apply criminal liability retroactively. So regardless of how bad they were, if it wasn't criminal at the time, they aren't criminals.

One thing I will say about this issue... from a purely political perspective it's a lose/lose for the Dems. Popular sentiment is strongly anti-union currently. The Dems receive a lot of financial support and votes from the unions, so they are going to be pressured to defend them. Thus, Obama today j...

Outlawing murder is legislating morality as well. I doubt many people have an issue with outlawing murder. Is abortion murder? All law, at it's core, legislates morality. The disagreement is probably over different conceptions of what is moral and what isn't.

It's a bond so again it's reflected in interest rates. More investor demand means that rates go down. Higher demand means rates go up. If the Chinese stop buying Fannie/Freddie paper, or worse yet, Tresuries, it means the borrowing costs of the US government have increased - a bad thing.
