On the other hand, if the other person knows that they'll get cheated out of a first round bid regardless, what incentive does he have to come save the group from being disbanded? Or should they be expected to just come and bail everyone out without chance of good reward out the kindness of their he...

Nonetheless tef, there is wisdom in what he's saying. Keeping an optimistic attitude about the game even in the face of adversity and opposition can do a lot to protect oneself against the "I'm better than everyone else so I deserve more" attitude that is so prevalent these days. That is, if you kee...

I just have a tendency to take arguments to absurd extremes in order to poke holes in them. Like this: So...perhaps the mud can live on with just the hardcore players? We can dispense fully with those damn freeloading casual players? If so, then why not just go lead and claim the gear for yourself a...

Alright. But can you help me with that glowing green cap quest? It's a doozy...might take months! :p Seriously though, I've found a resolution to the problem elsewhere, but the point about rogue is that if you want any respect, you can't just be mindless damage, you have to be a good scout and a goo...

Well, I can only speak for myself, but... I knew well of Targsk's claiming rule, and I have no objection to it, and it is more than fair. Even if he were to claim something I wanted, I would not object, because I know he would only take something in order to improve himself, and thus help us all. Pe...

Melee flavor
Let's look at what we have in terms of melee choices on the mud: 1. Warrior/Paladin/Antipaladin: Prime purpose is not to damage, but to tank. Most of the really good warrior types wear hitpoint and ac gear. 2. Ranger/Dire: A good/evil only class that most people hate, only used for stuff where melee...

I'm an egalitarian, but to me, that means equal chance and oppourtunity to succeed, not gear distribution parceled out until everyone has the same amount of gear. And especially not "only the hardcore can be allowed to win the best Tia items, because they're more important to the mud than casuals." ...

I think the thing is, if a person is going to decide whether to play or not on the basis of whether or not he can ever win a tia item, then there is a problem. Even the best gear in the hands of a noob is not as good as mid/high level gear in the hands of someone with skill. I've said it before, and...

I was level 37 or 38 with my human enchanter and never had any real problem keeping up. You just have to mem only what you absolutely need. Now, it might be a problem if they expect you to nuke and pwb regularly too, but otherwise it shouldn't be too hard to keep up with stone/blur/haste, as long as...

Well, it seems to me that we're at the risk of heading down a slippery slope trying to make it "fair," and that the more complex we make it, the greater risk of strife there will be in the future. I'd be all for removing first round bids from those who haven't been there the whole time, but with the...

I can understand why some want first round bids to go only to those who were there the whole time, and in a perfect world, I'd agree. But is it really practical, with a pbase of less than 100 at a time? But, unless the Dragon Sword loads, I don't see anyone dying over Tia gear. :p As for myself, if ...

A thing to make fiends a little scarier.
As I recall, Pit Fiends, and possibly some of the other uber Fiend types, get the Wish spell once a year. So perhaps this could come in the form of a proc that will let them: 1. Instantly kill a pc 2. Heal himself to full instantly 3. Summon a super powerful demon, mage, etc to help fight the party....

So...mages will have to sit on their hands at 1w with the rangers until some warrior comes to tank for them in an xp or a zone, like clerics and most other "core classes" do? You say that what they have now is as bad as bug exploitation...I guess my high level elf enchanter friend is hurting the mud...

I must respectfully disagree with your assessment on enchanter buffs and warrior tanking, Vaprak. Honestly, when they rolled up warriors, did they expect to become like Sephiroth at level 50? Or do they just want to be the sole macho dominant badasses with the non-physical types being weak worthless...

That is more or less the case, Kifle. In fact, I'd say that in most cases, the day has been won despite him, rather than because of him. In book 2, for instance, he probably really was the only one who could do anything about the situation. Perhaps in Book 4 too, but his misguided sense of whatever ...
