The way I remember it, there was only a zone echo of the item being auctioned and you had to be in the room of the auctioneer to participate.

Yes, it was a WD invasion, sometime last year. Because I'd only ever used it on several mobs, I thought it had a two/three round lag like kick, bash, or shieldpunch. The room was completely cleared and the other participants long gone before I unfroze. Cherzra's warrior document reminded me of this....
