Video Editing Software

What's some decent video editing software? The crap that came with this $700 camera only lets you edit out the parts of the tape you dont want and change the volume up or down. Any suggestions?

Adobe Premiere is pretty good, not that tough to use and fully featured

Some months back I built a new computer for a dude that does Broadcast quality videos.

This was a beast of a machine that cost him $8500.

dual MP2000+ (MP2800 or what ever would be cool now)
1 gig of 2700DDR ECC + reg RAM (to be expanded)
a 40Gig HDD (system)
2 x 80GB WD800JB special edition (8 mb cache) HDD in raid.
Asus dual DVI video card
like 8 80mm fans...
Sony DVD burner (does DVD +/- all formats)
Antec 550watt power supply
But the main thing was the Canopus DV Storm II video capture hardware.
This is what really makes video editing in real time worth while. Sure not everyine has $3000 (aprox $1500US) to blow on a video capture card, but man this thing just rocks!!!

For the software he uses Adobe Premier 6.5
This seems to be a good package and not to hard to work out.
Most video capture cards come with software but most is striped down SE (Sepcial Edition crap). To get a real good piece of editing software you are going to have to fork out a shit load of cash. OR find someone with the program and find a crack or serial number... Yes this is illegal but no one said doing things legally helps you when your broke...

yeah, the learning curve on adobe premier is like a cliff, but once you get the hang of it its not so bad.

I used premiere since version 4.. i got up to version 6.5
then i foud out about vegas video v4 .. i believe at this point vegas is ahead of premiere, at least until premiere will relase v7.

Now, Vegas video is much cheaper and in many ways much better of Premiere and I believe you can download a free trial. so you can try it ans see how you like it. The only problem is that there are way more add-ons for premiere.

Vegas is MUCH better in the management of the audio effects and has many video effects that you can achieve with premiere only in difficult ways, in vegas are straighforward.

learning curve is about 50% of what is for premiere.. especially for advanced editing. finally if you are interested in making you own dvd, vegas interlaces with dvd architect amazingly.
