Have you ever wondered...
Have you ever wondered...
Have you ever wondered if Atheists use the words "g*d damn it" or "oh my g*d"?
And I'm not trying to make fun of anyone, it's a serious, honest question!

I don't believe in God, but I use the phrase God damn it, all the time. Usually when I am fed up with something.
It is just an expletive that has no real meaning to me, I could just as easily say one of a million other words. This is why I feel it is stupid to punish children for 'swearing' - It just encourages them to do it out of spite, instead of as a method of punctuating or showing extremse emotion in a situation.

Another question would be if French Canadians who swear, using (no idea on the spelling) Tabernac and the other very Catholic word I just can't remember now) are trying to convey their feelings through the tone of the word given that most French Canadians are Catholics, or if they're somehow upset with the church... I've never quite understood it.
rofl auril that brought a HUGE smile to my face .. my hubby and *outlaws* are all VERY french canadian ... and they use that word ALL the time .. more out of frustration than any religious meaning..
was the other tabernacle???

Being atheist meself I understand what Question you are posing.
god dammit is an expression, to some a cuss word, to others, a total disrespect towards everything they believe in.
I put it to use quite often, and im also prone to saying 'jesus H. christ!' at the top of my lungs, which is basically the same thing.
It does nothing religious for me, it is about as equal as 'f***!' in my eyes.

Aethist, and yes I say god dammit Like others have said, most impolite words have lost their original meaning, and exist in English only as words which provide emphasis.
Who gives a shit?
I have no fucking idea.
Jesus christ that was a good hamburger.
Windows XP is such ass.
The words in these usages have lost the meanings they once had. Most people pick which swear words to say either according to a list of favorites or by their relative power. "I don't fucking know" is certainly more emphatic than "I have no damn clue", even though neither of the swear words contained in those phrases has an actual meaning.
Sorry for all the fucking swearing.

I am Buddhist here, and i think it is just damned funny some times to pull that one out. But more often recently, i have found myself saying great googly moogly when i get pissed...mainly because it makes people laugh. I guess i just curse because it makes people laugh, and the other smaller percent, it offends, which in turn makes them say something to me most times and i can argue with them....well, because i love to win, and i love to argue

I dare ya to go to a middle eastern country and yell Allah dammit! in front of alot of people! Gawd i love the land of the free, even if people sometime offend me with thier language. Speaking of gawd, those of you use words like gawd or dang it; are you doing that to avoid offense, or because it "technically" isn't saying God or dammit? Cause if you are implying it, isn't it just as bad as saying it? .... Don't mind me, long hours, late night, lotsa caffiene. =)
