Illusionists

Postby Harthorm » Tue Jan 30, 2001 2:14 am

Well, I might get smacked by a couple of Imms, and I'm sure someone has asked this on SOS2 (although I probably joined too late to see it), but is there any chance we can get a sneak peek at Illusionists?

I, for one, am very seriously thinking about playing one right away because it will be a totally new class (me and hundreds of other Illusionists swarm the MUD and we all stand at the fountain looking for tanks! :P).

What kinds of skills/spells will they get? Are they going to be mostly offensive, defensive, or a mixture of both in nature? If you don't want to give specifics, will their spells fall along the path of the more typical AD&D Illusionist?

I sincerely hope this hasn't been discusses (either in SOS2 or in the official News section of this site) and if it has, please just tell me to bugger off and point me to where I can read it :)

From what I read on SOS2 from D2 or Shevy (forget who discussed them), they are a balance of offense and defense. It was also mentioned that they may be a niche class. I guess we'll see...

Repost from the SOS2 board regarding sorcerers and illusionists from Shevy:

No, the Sorcerer class is not coming back. I understand some of the
grumblings about Enchanters, and I will get a handful of new spells in
for them to add a little variety and diversity.

For those of you who long for a mixed offense/defense caster class
like Sorcerers of old, we will have Illusionists. This class is
pretty balanced between the two, much like sorcers of old. All of
their magic is of course based on illusions and phantasms, but I
assure you these types of magic can be quite powerful. I'm thinking
of allowing illusionists to pick either illusion or phantasm as their
specialty to bring a little more diversity to the class, but haven't
decided yet...we'll see.

Either way, I think they will be a great addition to the game, though
I can't guarantee that they will be more than a niche class. Not that
there's anything wrong with that. :)

You have made my heart content about illisionist. I am patiently waiting. Also angering some of the imms, by asking everytime I long in and asking when they will be up. But they shall be super dupper.

It is my understanding from what Shev has said that illusionists will be implemented for alpha testing.
