Melee on sojourn refers to the non-spell and non-ranged aspects of the muds combat engine. Basicly anything where you walk up and take a swing at someone is considered melee combat.

Many of the basic principles for melee combat apply to ranged and spell combat, hitpoints and damage etc. But there are enough differences to make them seperate categories.
