New rogue skill

Postby namatoki » Tue Jan 30, 2001 4:51 am

I was looking at the new rogue skills and I thought of a skill not listed. How about adding a skill where you can study your intended victim. You must hide in shadows for the skill to work, but once you do, you can observe your target and after some time, you can hit with a critical backstab or a paralyzing strike (similar to a major paralysis affect). The skill would be a high level skill around lvl 42 or so.

Anyway, it's just an idea.

Just an idea taken from D&D 3rd Edition - Assassin prestige class?

It would be neat if hiding first would improve your chances of hitting. But I dunno if you want it improving your damage. Cause ya know... if PC's get it, then mobs get it, too. So rogue mobs would mean a REALLY bad day.

Hrmmm... I could be on crack, but I'm pretty sure that when I hid as my thief and attempted backstab, I had a much better chance... same thing when sneaking into a room. Maybe the ever-stabful Nilan could give us an idea of this? When I was playing my thief, I was of more use as a dart-flinger than anything else hehe

I believe we have such a skill - it's called assassinate and was added along with the other rogue changes near the end of Soj2. I don't remember the details of it of the top of my head, but maybe D2 will feel like further elucidating it.. :)

Hrm - what if I want to make alts and equip them? This will still be possible right? As long as that is possible, storage characters will never cease to exists I think.

Of course you can still eq your alts and stuff. What I mean is, the need to have a character dedicated to storage is over. You can still do it if you really want to for some bizarre reason, but it won't be *neccessary*.

Hmm, as I recall, several of the rogue skills give significant advantages to the rogue if the victim can't see the rogue coming.

What, D2? You don't have every line of code memorized yet? You should know that off by heart! Shame, shame...

But thanks for "confirming" my suspicions... I knew I wasn't being a complete idiot when I hid in shadows before every battle... *shrug*
