Postby Sizzraxxil » Thu Apr 11, 2002 3:03 am

A magic carpet floats gently here.

mount carpet
You have no legs, you can't ride that!

Its kinda stupid that yuanti can't ride a magic carpet.. is there any chance this could be changed?

It makes sense. Women in long dresses used to ride side-saddle, after all. Maybe it'd be a bit trickier as a yuan-ti because legs are probably a lot shorter than the serpent part of the yuan-ti, but side-saddle worked...

What saddle? I mean come on, it's a carpet. You know big, flat, soft. When it's not flying it's probably what? a 1/2 inch step to get on top of it?

Of course its probably a huge pain in the ass to change the mount code to allow for this.

normal pseudocode

if (ch->race)!= race_yuan
{set(ch->pos)=mounted}
else
{send_to_char("You have no legs to mount!"}
endif

new pseudocode

if (ch->race)!= race_yuan
{set(ch->pos)=mounted}
elseif (getvnum(mount)!=carpetvnum}
{send_to_char("You have no legs to mount!"}
else {set(ch->pos)=mounted}
endif

Now I've never written any code on a mud, so I have no idea if what you wrote is reflected in the mud.

I would like to say that depending on the context, pseudocode and actual code can very greatly.(unless you write the pseudocode AFTER you write the actual code. Good for pleasing management, but kinda defeats the purpose.)

Also, I really enjoyed playing a snake last time, but I could't resist the easy HT and CR ing, or the slots of the drow this time around.(Although I did try) I'm all for anything that makes snakes easier to play as a race.

Well, the thing is...if we had to mod the code to allow for all of the odd things area makers stick in the game, we'd never have time for anything else. There will always be some discrepancies like that - which isn't to say the carpet won't be addressed someday.

Hurrah for Shevy!

I'm noting that it's entirely possible that the area maker didn't *want* it to be mountable by yuans.
