summon What?!?

Postby Gerad » Fri Oct 04, 2002 5:26 pm

You can currently only try to summon a totem 3x per mud week which, when you have to work in 2 hours and you just wanted to do some exp, can be VERY frustrating. Image

How about if shamans could do SOMETHING to get more chances at summoning a totem. Perhaps you can just summon 3 per week and even if you fail you can just try again, but you can only actually get 3 per week.

How about something like a repent (or whatever) command, to appease your totem and get another shot at summoning him.

Why isn't the number of chances linked to Level, both skill and/or character level?

ya this was put in when spirits had a crap load of hp and were nice tanks, since they have been downgraded we really should get more than 3 attempts per week

Everybody's hashed this over and over and over... and I don't remember seeing anybody who thought keeping spirits at 3x per week was a good idea. Are spirits really that much more buff than elementals or undead? They can't even haste me! It's not like a shaman can have an army of little ghostly porkpies running around. Perhaps the way it is now could be reconsidered?

My highest wraith elemental to date is 560, my average is 279. I cannot gheal or stun. I've personally seen a shaman spirit tank the spiders on smoke, vault, most jot grid mobs, and quite a few other things. They do not need to get more than 3x.

The point is it doesnt make any sense. Its like an innate where it should be a skill, and 3x? oh please. All that means is you have to sit and do nothing for hours at midlevel while you wait to be able to do it again. Theres really not any point in that. Im not apposed to something like 5 minute lag on the SKILL summon totem, but 3 TRIES (THEY ARE TRIES! NOT SUCCESSES!) is far too few.

shaman totem is awesome. 3x is enough to let you fail but not enough to let you leave them behind or waste them. more importantly, not enough to make elementalists too jealous.

i think its fine... course i never used them to exp but having both stone and heal makes you useful in nearly any exp group.

i've RARELy failed all 3 of my summons. When i did have a spirit at that low of a level it NEVER died. I still don't see why you're complaining. Try wearing alot of wisdom when u summon it kinda helps. I _think_ cha might help b/c that was one thing i had over the other shamans and i failed less.

Of course shaman spirits are buff tanks, if they werent this thread wouldnt exist.

The point, again, is that some sort of lag in summon is nessesary, but the lag that currently exists is far too much.

Solution:

Allow a spirit totem to be summoned any time. If the spirit dies, however, you must wait X RL hours (mud days/weeks whatever) until you can recall the spirit because it is 'tired' or 'healing'. Perhaps add a 'dismiss' command so you can send your spirit back without penalty as well. This would also eliminate losing spirits to crashes (which sucks).

Only potential abuse I can see is by renting. . . whatever happened to the old code where pets would remember you after you rented? The text was something like:

A magnificent heavy white warhorsrecognizes you and comes up to you happily!
A magnificent heavy white warhorse starts following you.

Anyone else remeber this? Re-adding that code would be great. . .so if you lose link, or rent and come back later, your pets will still recognize and follow you!

Anyway, just my ideas.

I like that waelos, those are some really good ideas, specifically the resting thing, putting some lag in it up giving the shaman his needed 'tool' when he needs it! I also like the dismiss command, being able to give it up without losing your ability to get it back!

Great stuff dude

This is a great idea.

FYI - when the mud is rebooted or crashes the Spirit Summon # is reset. So you can try again at that point.

Sucked losing your last spirit due to a crash and not be able to get any more.

Oh, still waiting for the ability to summon (recall) your already summoned spirit in zone.

Can't tell you the # of times I have lost a spirit in zone.

Of course this does pose another twink issue. Send Tiger in go in throw spells, flee, summon, heal, order tiger N, N, nuke

Rinse repeat.

Still want it though :>)
