Abbreviations
Abbreviations
Just thought I'd bring this up again as a search of the forums showed the last discussion taking place in 2k1. Anyone else love them? Think they'd be a useful addition?

I dont get it.
What exactly do you mean, abbreviations for what?
Most basic commands in the game can be abbreviated down to only the first few letters anyway, if that's what you are referring to.
If you are hinting at abbreviations for multi-word strings, then that kinda stuff is usually take care of client-side (e.g. aliases in zmud), etc. I think.

I am all in for abreviations, especially since there is no real PK in this game. Instead of typing kill skeleton, I could just type k skel or something to that affect. It just becomes difficult having to type out whole names in a hurry. I.E. yesterday I was fighting a mob called administrator, it would just be so much easier and convenient to type out look admin, con admin, k admin. Since there is no PK, there is no threat of accidently attacking another player. Even some player names could be difficult to spell, especially when in a rush to assist someone!

ya know, there can be as many ways to type a mob name or object name as the area maker likes. its just a matter of adding all those keywords to the mob/objects.
some things do have short keywords already, just gotta try them out. then again, some area makers wanna be a bitch about things sometimes and make keywords long and hard to figure out. to each thier own.

Unfortunately, I am Malathar. ;)
I realize that keywords can and are added by some builders. I was thinking more along the lines of a piece of generic code to match to the list of objects in a room/pack/etc. Would make it easier for builders as well since they wouldn't feel compelled to add as many keywords. Fairly common on most muds and I'm sure there's a snippet available to make it work on this code base as well.

Which means you might be Cardolan's daddy? What happened to Cardolan?
Oh yah abreviations, I use the tab completetion on ZMud to my utmost happiness, I actually didn't know it existed until, well, later than I should have. Type the start of the word then press <shift>+<Tab>.
I think all mobs should include the keyword 'mob'.
Maybe all items the keyword 'thing'.

It is, but those muds weigh death less heavily, and thus accidentally using the wrong command on the wrong mob and getting yourself killed is not as much of a big deal.
