A Call to Dragonflight

Postby Battlebard » Tue Jun 01, 2004 10:30 am

The old bard raised his head from the corner table where he had been resting as the town crier shouted again for volunteers. As the voices in the tavern quieted, his hands moved quickly to his battered drums, and began to tap a martial rythm. His voice raised, softly at first, then gaining volume as the emotions gripped him, and the heat returned to his scarred and broken body.

A sparkle of colors on silent wing.
A flight of dragons raises voices to sing.
All flying, and dying for will and lives.
Using sorcery and tooth and claw like knives.
A dark one has conquored, Vile in power
The dark one has come, this our darkest hour.
Fear trembles within us, coiled tight in our chest.
But bravery also, beats bright in our breast.
We fiy on to struggle, against the Vile night.
All those of the darkness, the grey, and the light.
It may be that this be our final day,
But if that be so, then let the bards say.
"They died for a reason, they died for a cause.
To give life to us all, and make Vile One pause.
None would first stay him, til these brave souls flew.
We must carry the fight,, as they have shown us to do."
And so as we serve, for the Realm of our hearts.
Let us unite and to each be given a part.
If this be your homeland, and your heart be true.
The fight calls, do you listen, then join with us too.

As he finished the song, he tipped his cap to the bartender, gave a devilish wink to the barmaid, and limped from the bar to prepare for the coming battle.

Betandor Heartsong, Battlebard of the Starry Quill
Remember that the song doesn't end until the echo of the last bard's voice fades into dreams.
