She had forgotten how long it had been since she sealed the entry portal, and decreed upon pain of agonizing death any disturbing the sanctuary. She sat there in her ominous crypt-like laboratory, staring at a scattering of ancient texts and parchments. Had it been a week? A month? A year? A hundred years? How could one such as her tell, unless a precious moment of time was invested in monitoring such happenings within that other world? That far and distant land she had long since departed, the one that lied just outside her chamber door. If her body still lived, various weaknesses, like hunger or thirst, would have disrupted her dark and complex contemplations of magical research, unintentionally updating her to the trappings of the world at large. Something she could not afford, nor desired, and so time had carried on around this undead creature without care or notice.

Her gaunt skeletal hand of glistening adamantite metal scribed a passage of obscure magical rights. With an irritated motion she finished her thought, now transcribed onto the parchment. Her resources had been expired. The lich had learned all she could from her materials at hand. Had pondered all theories, and taken all algorithms to their end result. But still the answer she craved eluded her. She needed more information. Perhaps now she would spend a sliver of time to update herself on the House standings, well, if they happened upon her during her quest for additional sources of arcane knowledge, that is.

With a gesture of her ebony hand and an arcane word the doorway enforcements creakily unlocked themselves in eerie slowness, allowing the gloomy murk and fog above the chamber floor to spill out in to the room beyond, and back thru the portal came the sounds of the living, the sounds of action, and the sounds of a House on high alert…
