Ladies of the Night, Rumors and Silk

Postby Lilira » Mon Dec 06, 2004 7:57 pm

I stood in Baulder’s Gate, my adopted home. Waterdeep was filled with too many people looking for me to allow myself to relax there. I paused at the Baulder’s Gate Auction Hall hoping to find an interesting item or two to add to my gear. After all, a girl can’t be too careful these days, and I keep getting an odd itch between my shoulders, and a creepy feeling that someone is watching. As I stood listening to the auctioneer, I overheard an interesting conversation from the next room where a scantily clad prostitute stood with a friend talking.

'No, really? Teffie-poo's getting hitched,’ came the shriek of surprise. I frowned for a moment, my attention taken away from the auction proceedings. I’m usually curious about weddings, for it gives me the odd chance to earn some extra coin. In addition, I only knew of one possible “Teffie-poo” so I decided to investigate. If it was who I thought it was, part of me wondered how a prostitute would know him, and what in the world she spoke of.

I’m never sure how to approach a lady of the night, especially as I’m not interested in her services, so I decided to bewitch her with my conversation skills. She stood holding her shopping bags in the foyer of the auction hall, her friend having just left.

“Hi,” I began, internally groaning at my wonderful repartee. She greeted me cheerfully enough, and I began my gentle questioning. She seemed surprised by them and actually consoled me! Apparently she had thought it was I who was the lucky bride-to-be. Very quickly I disabused her of this notion. She was able to confirm that “Teffie-poo” was indeed Teflor, but the only females he had been seen with lately had been myself and Ayra, hence her confusion.

My mind whirling, and feelings unsure, I allowed the conversation to slide to another topic. There was word of a silk shop due to open soon in Baulder’s Gate.

At that news one of my little greedy impulses kicked in, and my heart went pitty-pat. I LOVE silk. Thanks to my magical bags, I was able to indulge myself in pretty clothes to wear, though I wore them less and less. I couldn’t care less about jewelry or pretty baubles, but I adore the feel of silk and wear it to please myself.

The prostitute went on about the red silk she had heard about, and I asked where this shop was to be located. I learned that it would probably be in one of the poor districts as it would seem the proprietress was from around there. At this point, one of her customers came in, capturing her attention. I gracefully withdrew and stood thinking for a few moments.

I had another matter to attend to, but after it was back to Waterdeep to hunt down the source.

ooc: I have to thank the RP gods for that little interlude last night. Whoever controlled the prostitute did a wonderful job, and I'm kicking myself for not turning on my log as this post just doesn't do her justice. *giggle* This board has been quiet too long so I just had to add something to stir things up.

Ayra found herself unable to concentrate on her book. Frustrated, she got to her feet and began to pace the tiny confines of her garret room. She'd used her magic to teleport to Teflors side just as he was attempting to get information about the caravan they'd escorted earlier in the week.

To her amusment, he'd been asking about one unspecified caravn in a city devoted to trade, that had enough caravans each day to make it hard for anyone but an accountant keep track of them. To her confusion, there was also a small child huddled nearby, invisible.

Ayra listened to the conversation a while, and Teflor whispered for her to "be creative" and help him out. Creative. Riiiiight.

"Honestly, I'm looking for a merchant that sells fine imported silks. I'm putting together my hope chest"

Tefs expression was a study in comical disgruntlment, the woman however squeeled and lept to the conclusion that Ayra was planning to be married. To the ranger. That now looked as if he was swallowing his tongue and holding off a fit of rage by will alone.

Ayra kept her expression calm as they learned very little... the woman excused herself with another congratulations, and began carolling the "news" all over the town.

"Well.. you did say creative. "
