Invisibility

Another aging entry in a Ranger's journal:

Intention, Result. Trust, Betrayal. Innocence, Guilt. Submission, Judgement.

Upon mortals, things in this world come in pairs. The first pair is perhaps the easiest to see. Life and Death. Something that has become even easier to realize in the times that have come upon us. Even as we blink, the pairs are apparant. Light, and darkness.

But these are just the things that come to us every day mortals. There are things apparent within the realms that come alone.

Immortality. Something that exists alone.

But is there anything that's truly immortal? Or is even immortality a lie?
Or does even the rule of pairs come as a pair.

Paired, Unpaired.

All those hurt by the rules, call out for the exception. Neither guilty nor inoocent.

========================================

Ayra and Teflor came to the alter upon the Volcano, drawn by the winds of dragonflight. At long last, it was time for them to recieve judgement, rather than to pass it on the decisions they had made along the way.

An inquisitive green dragon took a few moments out of her eternity to ask a few questions of the pair gathered before her, before she took the ranger's message to the skies.

In all his life he never felt so calm as he sat next to his friend, waiting on the powers over all else to pass their wisdom upon them.

Dust and volcanic ash stirred all around them as the dragon returned, touching down upon the alter and tucking in its magnificent wings. Perhaps this was the end of his journey. The judgement that came upon his actions, the way that had led him to this destination. And Ayra...

Both stilled and quieted as the dragon raised herself above them.

The council has heard the message.

Finally, a moment of peace.

If Life is paired with Death....
and Light to Darkness...
wouldn't Immortality pair with Mortality?

Words to wax and wane on, Teflon:)

or perhaps with anonymity?

Actually, no. Mortality doesn't come to the Immortal. Yet candles burn out, what goes up must come down, and eventually smart will come to your silly.

Hot goes cold, what is living dies (while mortal), non-stick surfaces chip and stick to your food... (shhhh, it's pepper)

Are you getting it yet?

Immortality doesn't come to Mortality.

But the unknown can be immortalized, and then, in turn, fade once more into anonymity when the evidence of their fame is erased. Probably not the immortality you were refering to, but still...

finder once was mortal was he not and he became an immortal. there are ways for immortality to overpower mortality.

Sonon, nice thought, but you're going backwards. Here's the point more clealry illustrated:

Immortality is something that lasts forever.

What does not change, is without rival and without peer.

teflor listen

if something does not change it can not grow smarter nor stronger eventually somethin will come along that can surpass it.

That coming from Teflon, the non-stick ranger just killed me.

Anyways, could refute your logic that there is nothing after immortality in a number of ways.

All of the Gods holding jobs during the Time of Troubles dropped down to Mortal status (immortality to mortality). And several of them even dropped from mortality to.....deadality....after that:)

So I mean, that counts, Teflon:)[/b]

Well, why do you think it was called the time of troubles? Immortality is an odd label. If the gods were mortal for some time, then they were most certainly not immortal.

Furthermore, immortality is also incorrectly used to describe the wyrms and the elves. They are most mortal, particularly how they may be slain.

The truth of immortality is the (sucessful) defiance of change.

The logic is intact, however, some views I've seen here have been quite flawed.

teflor your logic is flawed.
you say what does not change is without rival or peer
well that isn't true without change there cna be no growth no greater understanding
without change there is no way to learn new things nor to become stronger eventually someone or something will surpass you.

Sonon, you're thinking, but you're stopping all of a sudden. Try taking it a little further.

If something is immortal, it exists perpetually. How could something that cannot be changed by another be rivaled?

Furthermore, you have to realize that if something is "surpassed" (thus able to change the conceptual immortal)...

Then it wasn't technically immortal, was it?

You _must_ remember that it takes all of time as a whole to qualify immortality.

Immortality is not a person, place, or thing, but a concept.
