Seclusion

The tunnels of Underdark howled as Botef made his way north towards Gloom river. It had been difficult to say goodbye to Dobluth Kyor, to leave his brother Tibek alone. He'd watched his family crumble over the years, one member after another drifting away never to be seen again. His soul numb to the pain of lives lost. How many years had he endured? Nightmares haunting him in his sleep. Voices whispering to him from the shadows, calling his name.

Many thoughts ran rampant in his mind as he walked, feelings of guilt, of worry and of sorrow. No time to waste, no time for another drink with the Bubukken miners home from a hard days work. Time was running out, and he had none to spare. Picking up his pace, he darted through the abandon mines under Gloomhaven.

The River Veldrin was still, the roar of the whirlpool just barely audible as he passed. As Botef walked through the ruins, he thought about when life was easier. Long before seeing the visions of the monoliths. Long before Nilan had shared words with him under the massive trees in Mir. Long before his excursions across Fae'run had showed him a world on the brink of catastrophe. It felt good to be back in the Underdark, nestled away from the bustle of the surface life.

Botef smiled as he reached the top of the stairs. Still sitting as he always has, Botef nodded at the Anicent One. He sat down, removing his pack and setting it to the side. His mind raced as he tried to purge all his thoughts. Sinking deep into meditation Botef sat still, as motionless as a stone waiting in solitude for his time to come.
