I remember .... do you?

Postby Lirathal » Tue Nov 11, 2003 9:29 pm

11:00am, November 11th, 1918. Armistice

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae
Physician
Canadian Field Artillery

Remember all that have served to save our freedom.

Make it stop, Make it stop *cry*

Actually, it was at 11:11.

My hometown started the ball rolling in getting changed from Armistice Day to Veteran's Day.

Whenever I hear of this day, it reminds me of this song.

---

ARMISTICE DAY

(Band: Midnight Oil)
(Hirst/Moginie/Rotsey)

You're watching people fighting you're watching
People losing on Armistice Day
You're watching people fighting
You're watching people losing on Armistice Day

The watchers do the wincing reporters so convincing
But the two never lies
I went looking for a war but the only guns I saw
Never used in anger

You're watching people fight, say they fight
Oh say they lose on Armistice Day

The fixers do the fixing the locals do the lynching the papers deny
I went looking for a headline got talking to the backline
They'd never seen the action
BEER
