I always use wank as a term for just anybody, and not meant as an insult. Pretty much every evil does too (Thanks Klurg!)

It just seems to me that some people, usually Euros, think of it as some huge insult. A certain Scottish wank in our midsts really takes offense to it. :P

So what do you think? Just a regular term now, or just insulting?

When it was first used towards me it bugged me, but then I noticed EVERYONE was being called a wank.

I think in the Toril-verse this might be similar to the N word. Overuse doesn't desensitize.

I dunno, from what I understand being called a wank is the euro equivalent of being called a jerkoff. And some people take offense to being called a jerkoff, but seeing as how 99% of the male population probably pulls their pud on a semi-regular basis, you can't really get offended. If it's not true, then you're probably some sort of freak. If it's true, but you still get offended because you feel guilty about it, Congratulations! You're catholic!

I thought "wank" was a term much like "twit"... a term of deep and abiding affection...

Depends on who you're calling a wank. We have a wide range of ethnicities on the mud. Maybe it is highly rude to some people. If so, be considerate, and don't call them a wank anymore. It's that simple.

Don't go to brazil and make the OK sign (index finger to thumb, 3 fingers straight out) with your hand to say somethings good. You're actually telling them to f*** off. Or so I've heard.

Damn! I was getting pissed off because I thought people were calling me a Yank...

Learn something new everyday I guess. Now off to tackle those velcro shoes...

As I've recently learned, its quite different in the UK then it is back in the states for many words, this one being a prime example.

I take this word to mean about the same thing as "twink" a few years ago ... now twink is when you cheese an item ... odd ...

Trewe and Mogr and jaz and pretty much every aussie throws that term around like crazy... I dont think its a big insult :P

Actually here in OZ the term wanker is used a lot in certain circles/age groups to describe someone you think is a fool - your actual intent of the use can vary a great deal, from a light-hearted joke to a mate for him doing something funny/dumb, to totally serious abuse warranting a punch in the head.

Wank is pretty much only used other than to describe someone as "a wank", e.g. "Hey, goin' off for a wank eh?". And even then the word "pull" is often used instead.

Describing someone as "a wank" seems pretty much a modern yank term used over various internet comms, and I tend to pay little heed to it really.
