Forced Retirement?

Postby Sesexe » Mon Apr 19, 2004 10:18 pm

After playing all day saturday helping young, new, and inexperienced players...

.. while at the same time doing a lot of work in MS Word, yeah for the mud..

.. I took a shower while leaving my computer on and logged in..

.. came back to find my computer in sleep mode...

.. But it wasn't in sleep mode..

..that is..

...it wouldn't wake up...

..everytime I reboot it crashes before windows boots up (doesn't make it to the desktop image)...

... After installing a 2nd OS on the same HD, I've immediately run into the same problem again and again.

Looks like I'll have to reformat and reinstall OS all over again.

Might just buy a new HD.. maybe.. kinda wanna buy/build a whole new system..

But i'm going to be moving soon..

..need money..

..don't have much..

....good thing i saved everything to the 2nd harddrive I was working on and backed up my zmud..

..still.. kinda ironic it happens the day I did the most work on something I've been pushing off for about a year, no?

That uber sux. Sounds like a hardware failure to me though. Best to take it to a technician to open it up and look at it.

It actually could be a problem with the hard drive. I had a similar experience, where the computer would start up but then reboot before the login screen showed up. Turned out a system file had been corrupted or something like that.

We fixed it by putting my hard drive in my roomates computer. His copy of WinXP recognized a problem on the drive and _eventually_ repaired it automatically. Took a while though, during which his computer didn't look like it was booting either.

So if you have a second computer floating around somewhere, pop your main drive into the other computer as a slave drive...

Worth a shot anyway.

Not sure what it was.

But swapped out the ram, and reformatted the drive 4 times and then did a full install.

It's been running better now then it's ever been. Even got my network card to finally work and now DSL is x2's faster! I'm SO PSYCHED!!

WooHAH! :D
