Kicking Ass and Taking Names, it's Gathering Time

Ok, it's about the 6 month mark before the gathering and therefore it's time for me to start getting an idea about attendance, which decides the amount of food needed and room to be made for people who want to save a few bucks and stay with us. As another reminder, the gathering this year is August 4-6, the first weekend of August. This is what I need..

1) Whether you know for sure that you are coming or whether you still need a few months to decide, please send me a private message on the bbs if there is even the slightest possibility that you will be attending. Please include in the private message how you plan on getting here and where you plan on staying, hotel, with us, or with another local mudder (ex. Yayaril tends to stay over at Kifle's house).

2) Food suggestions (finger food seems to go over the best with this crowd)

3) Vote on the slogan you think is best

4) Spread the word. I know there are a bunch of people who mud, who don't read the bbs. If you know of someone who does that, please keep them updated as I don't know who they are.

Thanks. We had over 20 people attend last year, hope to have more this year.

This would be so different if a guy were planning it.

There would be one thread. It would be created on July 20th - a mere two weeks before the event. There would be no slogan. No RSVP's. Nobody would have any clue who was showing up until the day of. The only important detail to be worked out in advance would be who was picking up the beer. :)

LOL, Corth. I created another thread because the other one is 5 pages long and most of it is people hijacking it with everything and anything not gathering related. Figured it would be easier this way.

And btw, you still bringing the dip?

Oh no! I'm torn between two different ones!!!

TorilMud: Get Stoned, Live Longer
TorilMud: The harder we spank.....

We'd have to kidnap Corth from his wife to get him to come :) Lol, just go on the cruise you wuss!

PS

Hijacking threads is my duty as a spaniard.

Soo many good ones.. hard to choose ;(
even though I love it.. "TorilMUD - Objects in the Imagination May Appear To Be Larger Than They Are In Real Life" it seems kinda long for a banner..

And I need volunteers for a place to crash.. I don't take up much room :P

Ok, I got a couple of food suggestions and thought of some of my own.

Going to go with all finger food that people can munch on while they socialize. Besides most people will say they need a hand free for the alcohol.

Crab Rangoon (requested on pain of death)
Deviled Eggs (requested on pain of death)
Chicken and Beef Kabobs
Chicken Wings, Different Flavors (courtesy of Sotana)
Finger Sandwiches (Variety of ham, turkey, roast beef)
Fruit and Veggie Trays
Chips and Dip
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Strawberry Jam Cookie Bars with Crushed Walnuts

I may add other desserts, I might attempt a few cheesecakes, maybe some oreo pies, but it'll be really hot out and don't want to fill people with too many rich desserts. Sound good?

I gained 10 lbs reading that Jenera....

*wink*

I'm going to see if I can make scones.. if they end up being edible, I'd be glad to make them for breakfast items.

Those sound good.. just let me know what I need to do :) I haven't unpacked the cookbooks and such yet, so I haven't had time to look for finger foods let alone dessert's.. so I may come up with something else as well :)

This is partly why I'm only at 90% :P I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, so if you are serious, drop me a line about it. :) fo realz, yo. No harm done either way

Lol. I doubt you'll ruin anybody's fun. Hell, me and Teflor were in the same room together and we all still had fun. Besides. Douchebag there will be too busy fiddling with my juevos to bother anybody.

Things in the imagination may appear to be larger than they are in real life.

Meeting people in person changes everything.

Ok, menu is finalized (read above) and since there is no wedding and reception, I thought to keep a couple of things that would have happened. A lot of people donate money to cover food costs and lodging because ultimately it's cheaper than buying your own food and getting a hotel room.

Last year, Derek, Duna, and I got enough donations to pay for the gas used and a little leftover for us to split to partially cover the money we spent on food. It was highly appreciated.

Last time, I made it clear that I would not provide alcohol, but I also didn't realize how many of you like to drink. If any of you would like to donate this year, donate a couple of dollars our way to buy some alcohol and pay for gas for trucking people around and I'll get Jalahon to still bartend.

Also arranging with Derek's parents to have the gathering in their big field/house and have them take themselves and their dogs and cat elsewhere for one weekend. That was where the wedding and reception would have been.

Anybody have an objection to this?

Oh hell no!

Packin' my tent and my air mattress!

Do they have a firepit?

Posted: Tue Feb 07, 2006 2:26 am
by Jenera
No they don't, but perhaps Derek can convince his parents to let us build a campfire on the field, since they do that from time to time to burn leaves anyway. They also have an above ground pool, and ideal location to have the gathering, just waiting on a yes or no from them.

I'm supposed to support No. 3, but I voted for the last one. If you're going to put it on a T-shirt, I think that looks best.

oooh, be sure to post pics of that pool bursting when 2 dozen raucous mudders jump in it!

seriously - this sounds like another great event, even more so if you are able to use Derek's parents' place! so cool of them

I'm coming, even though I probably won't be able to log into the mud until well after the event (well, maybe sporadically for short periods...)

See you all in August. And Pril, I'll see you Saturday.

Still hoping to make it but I'm still at "mebbe" because I'm in the process of trying to buy a house so fundage is kinda scarce at this point.

If you call that pitching a tent, I don't think you'll have much room to move around in.
