DaVinci Code (No Spoilers PLEASE! But read at own risk.)

Postby Lilira » Sun May 21, 2006 10:21 pm

Just got home.

VERY pleased with the movie. It stuck nicely to the book 99.99% of the way. A&E is showing a very nice series of documentaries on stuff to do with this book btw over the weekend.

Wow, you must be abou the only person I've heard from who liked it. Even all the big name movie critics blasted it, though that doesn't say too much.

ok, i loved the book, but i thought this movie really sucked. i didn't like the acting or directing. they should have changed it up to make it a good movie.

The movie really showed how poorly Brown develops his characters. I saw it with my girlfriend, and afterwards she couldn't remember who played Langdon without thinking about it. I thought that even McKellan's role was weak. She enjoyed it, I didn't.

The book was 100% better then the movie, period.

Maybe for ppl who hasnt read the book, the movie is OK...but it cant reach the level of entrapment as the book did.

I thought the book was above average, but certainly not hype-worthy. It suffered heavily from flat characters... the code was the only character in the book with a shred of personality. After I read the book the first time, I found myself wondering why certain characters (Bishop Aringarosa) were even in the book at all. Even the main characters were faceless drones who existed only as a sounding board for the real gem of the book, Brown's Jesus story. You ever get the feeling like a character is explaining something to YOU rather than the person he's talking to? I felt like that for 99% of the book.

I also wasn't a big fan of the Lost-esque forced suspense. Seemed like every chapter (and there were 100 chapters) ended with some kind of unnecessary, manufactured cliffhanger. Then we got six paragraphs about the stupid police chief tearing his hair out, and the action flipped back to the story. It led for a very disjointed feeling, and the fake tension never released for more than a few pages before we got fed some other bullshit climax and another dull chapter about Sophie's half-assed flashback or Langdon's insipid copy editor.

With all of that under the surface, I can't imagine watching a butchered movie version of the story. Besides, I already know the theory and conclusion of the Jesus story presented in the book, why do I need to watch Tom Hanks with Steven Segal hair run around France for two hours?

*laughs*

I was the one that hated the last HP movie, so who is accounting for taste eh?

Its been two years since I read the book, so maybe that cushioned some of it. :P

I still liked the movie.

Prolly cus I was drooling over the scenery, and I don't mean the actors.
