Question about FOIS

Postby Ambar » Sat Jan 20, 2007 9:51 pm

We just switched to the fiber optic verizon service (I hate verizon so this is a stretch for me)

anyway wireless connectivity was fine beforehand and is fine after switching except for .. the bratty daughter's computer .. the nice daughter has exact same computer and connects fine

it sees the wireless network with wonderful signal strength but is unable to connect to it ..

any ideas for you gurus out there??

and the wired speed is unreal! once we feel better, i expect us to ninjaloot faster than you!!

thanks for the help in adavance ..

o fyi .. the wireless card that cant connect is a linksys wireless .. the new router is an actiontec m1424wr

three computers have connected wireless, a laptop connected just fine sitting right next to the connection-challenged pc .. so the distance doesn't seem to be a factor (since the computer in question is upstairs) ..

Possible Cause: Limited Number of DHCP Users

Try entering the configuration page of your router and poke around to see if there is a maximum number of DHCP users that you can set. If it's at 4 or 5, you may want to bump it up, as this setting will limit the number of users that can connect through the router.

Try This: Repair Network Connection

If for some crazy non-standard reason, your computer didn't pick up the DHCP information from the router, you may want to enter your network connection settings and hitting the 'repair' button.

Question: Are you using any sort of encryption or MAC address filter on your router?

Question: Is the power cord plugged in?

With you, Ambar, I just never know. :(
Teflor does. Teflor does not.

dont insult my intelligence, teflor ..

didnt you notice i said it was fine beforehand .. before the new router/service was installed/turned on? and the issue is with ONE computer that connected fine the night before the new service/router

yeah will try to see about the limited user thing ..

Do you use a wep/wap key of some sort? If thats teh case, retype the key plz.

Another thing can be that your computer has a static ip? change it to dynamic.

Try to renew your ip as well. Start-->Run-->Type cmd (hit enter)

Type ipconfig /release (hit enter)
Type ipconfig /renew (hit enter)

If nothing of the above helps, I'll come with other suggestions hehe ;)

You need to look harder! Shouldn't be that hard to sell her!
