Microsoft is offering free software to students. You don't have to be a full time student either. The program is called the "msdn academic alliance". The web site that handles it is http://www.e-academy.com/, but you need to talk with one of your computer related instructors to go through the procedure.
The way it works is, some of the software you can get a burned copy of at your school's computer lab, and then through the web site you get an official license and key. Other software titles they want a shipping fee for (which is around $15 I think). I got the ones that could be burned for free, and it has gone well. Here's what they are offering now:
These are the ones that have the burn your own cd option:
¤ Windows XP Professional (Single User)
¤ Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
¤ Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition CD2
¤ Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition CD1
¤ Access 2003
Again, I'd like to reiterate that this is totally legit. You just need to find out if your school is participating in it. Here's a link to a faq.
