We need BBS rules clarification

Because apparently some cleavage and Rick Astley is more offensive than a pair of mermen jizzing all over eachother, cock rims, or any number of other graphic stuff that's been posted and allowed to remain here. Care to explain why you chose to single out what everyone agrees was a really awesome post when its tamer than things even you've let slide in the past? Or would admitting fault be too progressive for this MUD?

In the true spirit of Jake, I thought it was great celebratory post.

Not sure why it was nerfed.

Its really too bad that we have to walk the line when it comes to speaking our mind against the staff. Its funny that other staffers from non-admin spheres are always open to discussing changes/rulings/anything... even this topic. You'd rather just play the omnipotent administrator? Gimme a break, you've been on my nuts all week, probably because of my controversial threads aimed at the current regime.

So Calladuran, why exactly didn't you just add a NWS warning in the topic or something? Why did you feel the need to flex your administrative muscle? Why did you take the time to piss me off, and not take the time to explain yourself?

Has anyone considered the possibility that there's not enough manpower to screen every BBS post?

Umm this thread is about a specific policing that went down... what the hell are you talking about?

Gormal wrote:Umm this thread is about a specific policing that went down... what the hell are you talking about?

Well, as a part of your complaint you did mention that all sorts of other stuff was allowed to remain up.

One possibility is that all that other stuff wasn't even looked at. Frankly, if I was the board admin, I wouldn't want to do a lot of reading on here either.

I'm pretty sure that the (now broken) links in the Maxler thread were looked at. Aside from Eilistraee, Marth, and sometimes Lath, the gods don't post here, and thats only because they value answering questions. I've made 3 different threads asking questions to Calladuran and he's chosen to ignore them all complete or delete them.

Call: I respect you as your mortal, but you're being a ridiculous pain in my ass as an admin. I'm sure I've pissed people off with my "negative" posts lately, and you choose to delete the thread which is easily the most upbeat and positive thing in GD. Take your finger off of the delete button, and ask yourself... is this really going to help the community or protect it? If you look at the age polls that have been done numerous times, no one here isn't old enough to get into an R-rated movie. I don't think that a little cleavage and a sweaty Elisha Cuthbert are going to hurt anyone.

If anyone is curious, here's a link to the thread I posted... I changed the first image from "Happy 3000 posts" to "Its friday" and stuck it on my wow guild forum. They're a bit less Puritan there....

Lol, she was more than sweaty -- that bitch was taking it pretty hard. Anyway, I'm agreeing with Gormal. Maybe there should have been a NSFW tag on it, but other than that, there was nothing I wouldn't let a 13 yr old see in there. Hell, there's nothing in there I wasn't used to seeing on HBO when I was around 9 (you know you all did it too, stfu). Hell, in France they have porn commercials! To think that some skin is somehow offensive or is going to 'ruin' someone's mind is just stupidity at its finest. How anyone can be offended by a nice round as and a big set of titties is beyond me -- hell, most people would define that as happiness!

I have my grandson sitting with me a lot when I open this BBS, I would have been more than upset if he'd seen it (he is 2.5) .. most of us have younger children around these days .. Maybe some folks let their kids look at whatever they want, most parents dont ..

We are allowed to browse the internet when on break at work and this BBS is an allowed site .. I could have gotten in trouble had I opened this at work .. whats wrong with just the link and a NSFW title?

A little common sense when posting is all that is asked for, posted rules or not .. Hell use this logic .. If you couldn't have posted it while in the Navy, then dont friggin post it

This is a family MUD, and that extends to the forums. I personally browse these forums both at work and at home when my kids are around. NSFW means it is not appropriate for this forum.

This is nothing new.

Not everyone wants to see it. Also, I often have my kids hovering around and would have been irate if they had seen....

Pretty sure I've already cited precedent, but good to at least still you aren't face down in a ditch somewhere. A NSFW tag in the subject makes it perfectly appropriate for you, unless you're saying that you never browse sites that might have stuff you don't want your kids to see.

I support the family MUD idea. It's a sad thing that I feel as if we should not be introducing our children to this mud.

This is a family mud that uses egregiously graphic descriptions of death and violence, among other things. Kind of funny that we can assassinate innocent children by viciously stabbing them in the back and laugh while looting their dead corpse and then drag it to town for our friends to see, but god forbid that we see boobies! Are text boobies still cool?

Don't be surprised. We live in a society that accepts violence, but not sex. It's the norm.

I hope that the parents who are concerned about bikinied women, and suggestive clips sell their TV's, put blindfolds on their kids when walking through the supermarket, and restrict their internet usage to only religious/Veggie Tales websites. I'm glad that this is a family MUD, but as Avak said, at what age are you ready to expose these fragile children to graphic violence, cursing, and the no-holds-barred chat that goes on in gsay?

Life is not G-rated.

I'm really not interested in debating morality, censorship, or what is or isn't appropriate for children. These forums have certain rules that you must abide by, and that's all there is to it.

If we missed previous posts that were inappropriate, that doesn't mean the rules no longer exist or that you are free to break them.

Oh noes! I guess I should have cut a hole in a strip of black paper so I could lay it across my wife's chest while she was breast feeding! I mean, i wouldn't want them to get the wrong idea -- you know, that women have (shh b..breasts)! All sarcasm aside, I'm going to be laughing my ass off when you peoples' kids finally find out what a bj is at the age of 16 when they've been saying the word since they were 8. May as well ship off to the Middle-East now where at least some women are covered head to toe in non-revealing clothes. Maybe then you can protect their weak minds a bit longer before they start and stealing your underwear and soiling their socks.

On Discovery Channel, the average age for a girl to have her first sexual experience is 14.4 yrs old. Typically it's either giving or receiving oral sex. *sigh* Hell, my neighbor's kid is 16. He's got a baby already, and his now 15 year old girlfriend is yet again pregnant.

Zack and Cody's mom wears some pretty revealing stuff sometimes. And drake and josh has teenage girls in swimsuits and sexually oriented stuff quite often. There was no difference in what Gormal posted.

Anyway, when I was getting handjobs at 15 on the bus every morning for three months from a sheltered Christian girl. I don't think there's much any parent could have done differently with the girl. She was born and raised Christian and sheltered from stuff the same way you think your daughter should be sheltered. She was able to go on one date with me when I turned 16 -- one. I got a blowjob in the movie theater parcking lot.

Here's a newsflash: If your girl is pretty, chances are she's going to be active at a young age whether you like it or not. And you can blame this all on the media and the use of sex in adds, but then you'd have to worry about the retort about the rest of the world and how they portray sex on their national television stations and how it is at the very least no different than here. And then you're going to have to start using your brain and actually trying to find the real reasons instead of blaming it on hot chicks that like to flaunt their tits and the men that love them.

As far as my two daughters go. Well, I will continue to raise them to respect themselves, build their self-esteem, and show them love as much as possible before they reach that age (which is soon). If they end up having sex, there's absolutely nothing I can do short of locking them up in their rooms until they're 18 -- and if you've somehow deluded reality enough to think that I'm joking, you're going to have a rude awakening when your daughter comes home at 16 and a condom falls out of her purse.

The fact is, if you allow your children to progress and be a part of society so that they understand things, they will have all the tools they need to make the right decisions. If you shelter them and make them watch the disney channel until they're 14, they have all the more reason to search out the truth elsewhere -- since their parents obviously don't understand (you all know this is how kids think).

I plan on continuing to be up-front about things with my children -- they have yet to do anything but amaze me with their maturity and intelligence.

Yeah, I wasn't speaking purely from a sexual perspective. I've seen so many kids who get into college or the real world and are so naive that its easy for people to take advantage of them financially, professionally, etc.

So here's the deal.

Nobody wants to hear child rearing advice from you guys. We don't want you to talk about our daughters, and we sure as crap don't want to hear about your sexual experiences. We also don't need to be told from you what it's like in the big, bad real world - we live in it too, and our efforts to keep THIS place clean and family friendly do not make us ignorant or stupid.

Find something nice to talk about, or at least interesting - I hear there's an election going on.

You probably wouldn't see so much consternation about the subject if it wasn't for the tendency of "your kind" to force their ideals into laws which affect the rest of us. Sure, you're the owner here so you certainly have the right to do so... but realize that you and Ambar <i>sound like</i> exactly the type of people who made such a big deal over the Janet Jackson incident, who cause any movie shown on cable to be so horribly censored as to be unwatchable, and overall just ensure that the amount of sexual repression in this country is so high as to actually have negative consequences.

Frankly, the best argument for keeping boobs covered is that it gives you a more illicit thrill when you finally get to see them. Is that what you're going for?

Wow, that's not entirely hypocrical. Like Sarvis said, I guess it's your right as owner to censor this place how you see fit, but pleast don't try to justify it with the illusion of superior morality and then bitch when the same rhetoric is spat back at you.

Seriously, what the hell.

You should not be browsing the Toril BBS with young children around. Language on this site is unfiltered, and each and every one of you is aware of that. People say fuck and cunt and shithole on here all the time, so if you're reading the Toril BBS with a 2 year old on your lap, something is already fucked up. An animated .gif the size of a postage stamp that features PG-rated, fully covered boobies is the least of your problems.

As for deleting the thread, it was asinine and unnecessary, especially at this point in time. If I were running the universe, I'd be making a post right now explaining where I've been for the last two months and what my plan is to keep the MUD from sinking underneath the waves. I sure as hell wouldn't use my first returning post to reprimand one of the MUD's best contributors for posting titties in a forum thread.

But, I think we've established by now that there is a difference in opinion between myself and the powers that be about what constitutes a "Good Idea" in terms of MUD administration...

Ok, I'm going back to Stage 5.
