Search

Postby Sarell » Sun Nov 02, 2003 7:27 am

While it certainly doesn't constitute a new topic, I have a funny story about the problem of searching out hidden doors for doogers etc. Today a friend was over and had a peek at 'this mudding thing' he got the joy of seeing me stuck in a room searching for 20 minutes. Over 3000 lines of search. This really is way over the top.

I still propose after 10 search you either auto find an item in the target being searched (room or container) or get the message 'You are certain there is nothing more to be found here.'

Anyhow, back to searching cos I'm still trapped in this room.

Reminds me of the time I had to go rescue Nokie from a room with a locked door he couldn't manage to pick. He got in but couldn't get out!

11/02/03 You find some new code!
- Search completely rewritten, new features include:
- Can specify a direction for improved chances (ex: 'search north')
- Can find multiple hidden things in one search.
- There's a chance to inform you if there is nothing at all to be found.
- Easier to search overall.
- You can search while blind/dayblind, but with a large penalty.
- Environmental modifiers based on race/class (eg, elves get a forest bonus)

You realize in this last code update like at least 2-3 things that people were complaining about for years just got fixed. Good job guys, was impressed when I read that one. =)

Agreed! Thanks a bunch!

Now how about making it so it doesn't take 5 flees with 90 elf agility to get out of a room with 6 exits?

Omfg. Can something be done about searching out hidden mobs. I'm literally averaging over 5 searches just to search out 1 mob. Its worse than it was before! Maybe the game now thinks yuan int = ogre int?

I agree with Dizzin on this one. It kind of stinks that I gave up other attributes so that I could roll a higher intelligence, and now it's starting to seem pretty worthless for me. I've noticed a LOT of instances now where I have to search five or more times, often more than ten times, for something I know is there. Does intelligence still have an effect on searching?

It's most assuredly NOT worse than it was before...but it's still possible to get crappy unlucky rolls. And yes, intelligence is still the primary factor in searching.

If it still needs tweaking, I'll tweak it to make it easier...let's hear some more feedback :)

Well, I'm not having any problems searching out exits, or even items. But when it comes to hidden mobs, I'm literally taking an average of 5 searches to show them out. Last night in ZK, took me a total of 21 searches to search out 3 mobs. (Yes yes smartasses, that's 7per, but this was worse than normal!) It was always when there was just a single lifeform in the room though. Quite possibly the code does something funny in circumstances where there's just 1 hidden mob in the room?

Hrm, I'll take a look at it...may be a bug lurking in there or something.

4 searches at 138 drow int to find this guy. I'd say that's worse than it was before. :(

Edit: And it happens regularly. Just had it take 6 searches at 138 int to poke one out.

Tall high grasses roll in undulating waves across the sides of
the rolling hills. A soft gentle breeze rustles the grass
carrying along with it damp clouds of mist that seem to enshroud
everything. The chirping of birds and chittering of insects can
be heard amidst the rustling grass. A sense of calmness and
peace pervades the sylvan hills which stretch in all directions.
