Lich vs. Lava Burst

Postby Thilindel » Mon Sep 05, 2005 5:10 am

Ok, can someone see what's up with lava burst and being a lich? I've been eating 313-358 lava bursts ever since liching. I have prot_all and -13 spell save yet, weakest lava burst to since being a lich is 313 damage.

Then from there you get that stupid burn after the spell that chips another 150+ damage. This last round of stupidity killed me! Bleh. For the record, incendiary cloud isn't this strong vs. me *shrug*

*shrug* Does seem like lava hurts more than it used to.
Fighting mentalists scares the heck outta me, for just that reason. (vokers too, tho I have a bit better luck with them usually)

Hmmms, actually got lava bursted yesterday with my ele and i think it did only like 200 hps damage (apart from fire damage) with -15sv_spell. Liches burn better? Would seem logical since they're all bone and no moisture :P

What's the difference between a match and a lich? A lich burns longer!

Lava burst is supposed to be a nasty spell, and way more damage than cloud. It can outright kill my troll at full health (unvitted 960) if I fail the save on it.

I quit playing my ele..been lvl 50 for like 3 yrs. IMHO, with what ele's have to work with, lava shouldn't outdo an invoker's 7th circle *shrug*

But it's not that as much as lava burst does more to lich than it should. When my other chars get hit with lava, it's 200 damage or so. Since last night, I ate another 5 lava's and they still all do more than 300 damage. Petitioned it and someone jokingly said it was cuz lich burns easily, then they said they were just kidding. They're not or it'd be in the helpfile was what I was told. There definitely is something up with it tho.

just so you guys know in d&d 2nd and 3rd edition all undead hve a weakness to fire. corpses burn very well i might add. this might be part of the problem, as for cloud think if it as a giant blast of smokey steam. not realy much there to burn more so irritate. at least thats the way i see it. i could be totaly wrong on the clou thing.
i dont know what your problem is, but i bet its hard to pronounce

Yeah, it makes sense that a dessicated corpse would go up in smoke quickly. So if we accept this as the reason, then why do the dry corpses still emit body heat, though the other corpses (pets) don't.

Cite this please. I'm not finding anything in AD&D, 2nd edition AD&D, 3rd, or 3.5 monster manuals that support this claim.

Now come on..30 damage from firewave vs. 350+ hps from lava. Not sure what strikes me crazy as to either lava is over 10x stronger than firewave PLUS burns your ass for x rounds after, or that an elementalist gets that kind of firepower in the first place, OR the fact that only lich class (ignoring the default fire prone troll) is absolutely eating damage on a bug. As I said before, please fix this! :)

I should have a fix in soon, there were a couple of glitches present that'll be fixed.

As a note, when I respond to a mudmail saying I'm looking into it, futher bbs posts on the topic on the same day are somewhat extraneous. But thanks for the heads up :)

yeah, if you were to ask me, i'd think firewave would top icewave in terms of damage done to undead. i have no sources to back this up though. :(

if liches don't emit heat then mobs without ultra wont be able to track players in the dark =)

But when you track something you are looking for tracks where you are, not where the mob is :|

PS: Upgrade firewave, downgrade rangers! Remove ranger track just incase there is a problem I'd suggest. And make them more prone to fire since they mostly wear vegetation.

In no version of any monster manual that I can find do undead (as a whole) have an actual weakness to fire. Many are resistant to cold, but resistant to cold != weakness to fire. There are even a few undead fire beings that LIKE fire. Now, those are neither here nor there, but liches do not have a weakness to fire. *shrug*
