Havn't you realised?. If you start at 12, it takes 8 hours, start at 2 it takes 6! We should be starting at 4 and it will only take 4! Tiamat simply dies at the same time!

I guess it's fairly inconsequential what Pril is doing so I can Warrior / Shaman / Druid if need too! Be nice to have the full 30 again however!

PS: the time still sucks! Let's make sure we dock people who are late. Nothing worse than getting up at 2am then sitting around for 2 hours waiting on someone!

I have never had a goodie of sufficient level to go, so I feel somewhat safe in asking if this is still the case. I feel kinda bad for people who go and are denied the ability to bid on a top tier item. Hoping both the 'last person for a claim' and especially the 'for a few runs' parts hold up.

Well lets look over a few facts here, Tiamat takes alot less time than it has in the past. In all reality the system that I have devised gives those who never been to Tiamat a fighting chance in getting the item they want. That being said, yea its not all that fun if you go and the item you want is claimed, but thats part of keeping to the system, so that when the time comes for someone to receive their item they don't get jerked out of it. In actuality I don't believe it will ever start an argument because of how long most of them have done the zone and never won, the reasons for my handouts are for those that have been ya know 300 times and never won and/or didn't stand a chance with those with insane points. So in conclusion, I do warn people when I have someone up on a claim so they themselves can make the decision to not go on that particular trip. Hope this helps out a lil bit.

It takes A lot of runs where you go for the whole run and bid and lose a top/second tier item (you can *win* a third tier item and still consider it a loss) before you can claim one item the next run, then you get your points reset to zero .. when you consider 25+ people are bidding, those are not horrible odds

Brandon has done a great job I think :) if people didn't like it more people would lead it .. And look, someone else is leading next month and using the Nerox point system and his point tallies :)

Why fix what isnt broken?

First off I have no complaints thus far about Brandon's point system, just putting my thoughts out there. Second, I don't know for certain if people have been abstaining or not so if that is infact not the case non of this comes into play and I've wasted my time typing!

I think Jim was hinting about abstainers. I can see why that would annoy folks as that isn't really the intent of the 5 lose claim system. Once a few reach the point of claiming, which has only recently started happening, I see the potential to snowball into a lot of people assuming that the only way you'll ever get a crack at a circlet is by a claim.

We've had two runs in a row with claims now and a third on the horizon. That means anyone who's set on winning a circlet has 2 going on 3 loses assuming thats all they are willing to bid - which is becoming a realistic scenario as more and more people finish up their tia gear sets. In that scenario your odds of having a chance to bid circlet, let alone win it, are much lower than your odds of just saving up 5 runs by not bidding anything. You could force people not to abstain but thats not very fair either for someone who honestly doesn't need anything from tiamat on a given load and has saved up 300+ points.

If I were to address this without souring any feelings I'd probably do the following:

- Keep the 5 run lose claim system in place
- Abstains on first round (and maybe second round) bids do NOT equal a lose (But you still retain points)

This way people can still abstain and save their points for higher odds on an item they actually want without mucking up the 5 lose claim system which should not be a system for winning the circlet but rather a fail safe for people who just have shitty luck.

IMO if you don't bid, you didn't lose so the 5 run claim thing shouldn't apply. Either way points, and odds, are retained.

Just to be clear, I don't know anybody who has complained or anyone who has claimed anything and generally am pretty disinterested in the whole thing. I mostly just look every few months at the tia coming soon! posts, see a claim, and say 'man I'd be pretty bummed' since my zoning world-view is effectively of self-contained runs. I guess since most tia groups are more or less the same people each time it's more like a continuation of the same group so nobody is going to care much. For me, an ideal claim system would not allow an uber top tier item to be chosen. Claim time-stop bracers or something else nearly top tier, but not circlets or valhallas. The best of the best should be available to all every time in my philosophy.

Why shouldn't the claimee have a right to choose the uber top-end item they want? Myself being one of the people who've claimed an item went, and lost 5 runs in a row. All bids. First round, second round, some 3rd round, and walked away with squat. I completely disagree with your statement. The person who's put the time in(prior to the previous runs, time investment was a bit more though not humoungous) should be able to get what they want.

The best of the best should be available, but if you've lost five times in a row, it's still available to you to pick off. The claim runs are said FAR in advance, and most people in the runs tend to know what the person who's claiming is going for anyway.

So, in short/long/medium I disagree. And timestop bracers are pretty top tier as far as items go. Not really a second round bid typically those.

I understand that in the interests of fairness and offsetting bad luck that claims are an effective method. But it is also a very important fact that each tia run is a self-contained zone run in which, for some or many people, any prior run is not a significant factor. As such, drawing on previous runs for justification as to why the rest of the group should not have access to one of the very top end items is imposing an unnecessary injusice on the rest of the group. This could be significantly offset by simply imposing a rule that a claimee cannot take what is roundly regarded as the best of the best, of which there are (in my view) three items: facile chimera, coiled serpent, and valhalla. I am certainly not saying that a claim cannot be made on a first round item. Claim a bane, claim timestop, claim globe eyepatch, claim any number of other first round items. But say to the group from the start that, if you go on this trip you will have a shot at one of the uncontested best items in the game no matter what. There can be no reasonable argument made that being able to claim one of these non-circlet/valhalla items would not completely satisfy the goal of offsetting bad luck.

Just to reiterate, this is just my philosophical perspective of things and I certainly don't expect anyone to listen to me or give my perspective undue legitimacy. I merely see unfairness being used to fix unfairness on a level that is unnecessarily harsh when alternatives such as noted above are available. I'm not attacking anyone and I understand that the current system is so deeply imbedded already that it would be yet another injustice to implement my suggestions or any form thereof in the near future.

Well, the system won't change because this is what we want as a community. I'm sure if we started losing players to this system we'd edit it, but there's no point in complaining about it. It's a fun zone now and as someone who started out new to Tiamat, I've already obtained 3 tier 2 items in 3 runs.
It will be fixed in Toril 2.0.

You also can chose not to go if you know someone is on a "claim" run

I just dont get the big deal :) If noone is claiming anything and it is your first trip you can still bid on the top tier first bidded item, just those who have more accumulated points than you have a better chance at winning. Hell someone can win valhalla on their first ever trip if they are lucky

The way the pbase is now you dont even have to be invited to tia .. anyone can go .. Years ago they were invite only trips and STILL based on how often you had been with x or y leader ..
