Elementalists

Postby Delmair Aamoren » Thu Feb 05, 2009 7:06 pm

You know, elementalists are a pretty darn decent class.

Earthblood does an incredible amount of damage relative to its casting time, and even has a chance to paralyze! Elemental ward is pretty cool in that it won't chip scales, and gives a reason to have an elementalist in a lot of groups. The elemental embodiment spells are also a nice asset to a group. Elementalists even have a reasonable skill set for soloing things if youre incredibly patient and quick. That is.... if your opponent has blood....

What i've noticed is that elementalists harness the power of the elements, but are pretty darn useless at even defending themselves against an angry elemental that they summon. Is there any chance some sort of spell could be added that would do earthblood type damage (and maybe even a %chance to stun instead of paralyze) against elementals?

I think that's about it for each specialist class. Pretty freaking weird.

Druids don't hold any power over non-nature. - plague/viral would be fun!
Clerics' turn undead is laughable.
Necro and especially Lich vs. ethereal living or golem types is laughable.
Shaman and the bs limit of spirits, self-explanatory
Enchanters can't enchant armor or anything but silly 2/2 weapons !Magic - useless.
Warriors aren't nearly as melee oriented, some ODD reason, vs. rogues..
Goes on and on.

But yeah, would be nice for ele's to have more spells of elemental types - gas, acid, charged lightning, summoning lightning elementals, ice elementals, steam etc. At least adds more color. *shrug*

umm del... if you blind an elemental then flee it dies instantly.

Glitterdust, power word blind. Or you could dump some whirlwinds into it.

thats a gap in logic... adding fire to fire increases the blaze... air elementals are coalesced air, if a whirlwind comes across and blows the air ele around its gonna rip apart..

Wherein i know the method is functional and appropriate, the point is the lack of power vs elementals. This is supposed to be a master of the elements, and he's most powerful vs things WITH blood. Its rather backwards. Druids are more powerful IN nature not out, Necros WITH dead than without. I won't even get into clerics or enchanters as i believe the argument there is rather irrelevant. Just thought it would be smart and appropriate to have a spell for mentalists that worked against elementals. That which you can create, you should be able to effectively destroy, right? and not by using the "twinks" allowed by the code to get around such things.

Completely disagree. Fireball, given your example, should blow a fire elemental to bits to..which isn't the case. Seems to get more philosophical than anything. To stop a fire, you have to burn around the fire to offset its supply. But for an entity made of air, I would think the rush of air would rejuv it in some fashion. *shrug*

If your only argument for changing a class' skills around is because its not "realistic" or thematic enough, then its a waste of coding time imo. We have classes that are imbalanced as a class. Its probably not the time to be worrying about the nuance of our cake frosting when we're still burning the steak.

So, what kind of beer do you all like with your steak?

I prefer a Syrah or Pinot Noir with steak. If its gotta be beer, then I'm going with a dark belgian or abbey style ale.
