The tinker machines "winners" list needs to hold up from one boot to the next.

And my other idea is that instead of recieving coins, tickets or coins that can be used to buy something useful would be the prize. This could be tied in with using prestige to buy things too.

in ff11 you level up and gain a sort of prestige which yo ucan use to buy items appropriate for your level.

Depends on what you do with the cash I suppose. Does Lord P have a "Widows of WD Salesman" fund?
