Weapon Death Procs

Postby ssar » Fri Oct 14, 2005 12:16 am

Add more!

For proccing weapons, some of them have special proc messages when it procs on the deathblow, which is awesome!

Add special deathproc messages to more!
High priority.
Yea Yea.

I agree, who doesn't love to see a mob die to a nicely preformed proc.

The issue with adding more death procs is that many of them aren't just for show--they do do more damage to the mob. Or, in the case of the bard glaive, it actually leeches mana from the mob and gives it to the bard. Which, of course, doesn't compare to the anti-paladin unholy avenger, whose death proc is even more beneficial to the wielder.

Most death procs are the result of when the damage from a standard proc would kill the mob. This makes some weapons impractical to have a death proc; weapons that grant extra attacks or that cast a spell as a result of their proc most notably.

I can look into increasing the potential death procs, or (brainstorming as I reply here) I can see about actually spicing up the final blow messages so that the end result has more flourish and interest.

The evil sword from MD has a sweet death proc. IMO it is the coolest one I have seen.

As I lvl'ed it was always the highlight of a new spell circle to see what the death message was for my new spells, thank you!

I'm sorry Vigis, but there is NOTHING in the game that compares to the pure, blissful satisfaction of the garrote death proc.

Add deathproc messages to proccing shields too!

"Blood sprays from a kuo-toan bounty hunter as you deflects his attack, and dies."
Boooring.

Replace with something like:
"Blood sprays from a kuo-toan bounty hunter as you deflect his attack, and he falls to the ground quivering with a burst of bloodied thorns protruding from his body."
Or something.

There are several weapons that I know of with special messages on deathproc.
I tend to get the impression that the codewriter of the procs for weapons and shields who do not put at least some special deathproc message is just plain lazy, especially that thorns shield as shown above, for example! Like, they obviously entered ", and dies." as the deathproc message, you'd think they could have at least thought of something with a few more words.

I'd love to see well-written deathproc messages for almost all proccing weapons, except those that simply give more attacks I guess.

Even then, something like this could be considered:
"Adriorn's a huge glowing tree root seems to come to life, and Mr. Hanky staggers under a barrage of vicious blows before collapsing to the ground beaten, giving up the fight for good."
Or some such, perhaps.

Yes. That kicks ass.
Similarly the MD sword, and gythka deathprocs are real nice.
Even the 1h SF mithril sword one is cool.

It is shweee-eet deathprocs like these that make us yearn for more!
Obviously not more long-winded kickass ones like those are necessarily needed, and we don't wanna see some kind of "oh, I'll write and even better and bigger set of deathprocs" contest or anything.

Just some tweaking to spice up many current or missing ones.

While we are at it, the spicing up of deathblow messages on some other actions should be looked at too, e.g.:
"Your kick at a drow surface raider's kidneys made her die."
Er... even the "Your kick splits it head open" or whatever it is occasionally when you kick them to death is better (but is still lacking imo).

Better deathblow messages like we see for headbutt and other class skills (does vital strike have them?) etc. as well as lots of new weapon/shield deathprocs should be priority! yea yea

Can we add to this fixing the current procs text formatting so it doesn't look really fscked if you don't have the same terminal width as whoever wrote it?

All the line breaks really need to be pulled out of the procs that have them (GCD anyone?) and leave the word wrapping to the client so that it doesn't look broken and spammy.
