More than five hundred feet in diameter, this ancient clearing seems to
have been carved from the jungle itself. No plants grow on the mud ground,
and a hole in the canopy overhead allows bright light to shine on the huge
and frightening objects filling this area. Gigantic jade heads are arranged
in perfect rows, all facing due east with expressions of anticipation on their
stoney faces. The area is strangely silent save for the faint whisper of
the breeze through the surrounding trees.

One of Kia's last moves before he "left" was the change to any !tracking spells that if the tracking mob was within 1 room of the caster, it would immediately move into your room and attack in the same breath. Quite sure that this is what you're seeing here.

Actually, I am aware of that, and moved more than one room away. I suppose it's still possible that it happened to wander into me, or wander until it saw me, but it doesn't seem terribly likely.
