The pit continues up and down here, having been worn perfectly smooth
over centuries, probably by a long silenced waterfall. Red glow fungi
grow in patches along the walls of the pit as it climbs off into the
distance. Thin smokes rises from below, and the heat of the lava flow
can even be felt this high above the molten rock.
Exits: - Up - Down
An elemental flame cobra rears here, blazing with heat!

A hideous white beholder floats here.
An elemental flame cobra floats in from below.

A hideous beholder rotates in mid-air and directs its central eye in your direction.
Your flesh loses its stony texture.
*Stone ouT*
The magical side of things is less visible.
Invisible things vanish again.
Your elemental embodiment enchantment fades, and you feel able to focus again.
You feel sluggish as the magic of your equipment stops working.
A hideous beholder bites you.

< T: Vassakas TC: few scratches E: beholder EC: small wounds >
Your body shimmers and sheds its elemental form, returning to normal.
*Elemental Form ouT*
You rediscover the law of gravity...
...the hard way!

< 743h/355H 120v/125V >
< T: Vassakas TC: excellent E: beholder EC: small wounds >
Your blood freezes as you hear the rattling death cry of an elemental flame cobra.
With a loud puffing sound, the fire elemental dissipates into smoke..
An elemental flame cobra stops following you.
You stumble, but manage to avoid falling!
A hideous beholder bites you hard.
OUCH! That really did HURT!
A hideous beholder bites you.

On a Narrow Ledge
This broad ledge curves along the northwestern wall of the great pit
here, continuing to the south, and ending only three feet from the next
ledge to the east. A hazy yellow glow comes from the bottom of the pit, and
acrid yellow smoke rises with the heat into the darkness above. From this
vantage point, there appears to be a crack or an area of greater darkness
approximately one hundred feet above where the pit narrows.
Exits: - East - South - Up
A filthy derro stands here, grumbling under his breath.
You land with stunning force!
You collapse in a heap on the ground.
The world starts spinning, and your ears are ringing!

Being knocked unconscious strictly limits what you can do.

- Beholders have been asked to ease up on you guys at the onset of battle.

I guess that's somehow easier on us than the force missiles they were doing? *boggle*

Certanily. Magic purge is almost always going to cause less damage than what a beholder used to do when it was about to tag somebody.

Just unfortunate circumstance, being in very tall tower with no ground.
