Zmud char file basics

Postby Grxx » Tue Apr 27, 2004 7:48 am

I use different files for each of my chars.

CAPTURE WINDOWS. Zmud will capture things into a seprate window for you. I capture everything, tells, ooc, nhc, assoc, g-say, petition, god tells... all of it. I capture everything into the same window:
#TRIG {tell} {#cap tell}
#TRIG {-group} {#cap tell}
#TRIG {ASSOC} {#cap tell}
This keeps everything in order and also helps cut lag by minumizing the windows open at one time, to make more then one window name the capture something differnt:
#TRIG {tell} {#cap tell}
#TRIG {ASSOC} {#cap acc}
I like to capture whut i say as well, makes for a good log.
I name the windows different in each char file, allowing me to play 2 muds and capturing things from each into its own window.

SHIFT/TAB. Shift/tab will complete the last thing into the buffer starting with whut youve typed already. Works well for long names and stuff, say you want to cast something on Bakanatalop, type bak and hit shift/tab.

TAB COMPLETE. Tab complete is a list you make. Say you group with Bakanatalop alot, highlight Bakanatalop and hit ctrl/w. With tab complet you just type bak nad hit tab. The tab complete list is in view.

THE MORE YOU CAN DO WITH THE KEYBOARD AND THE LESS WITH THE MOUSE THE BETTER!

SCROLL BACK. The default setting is like 6500 lines, it can be increased to 65000. This adjustment is in prefs under memory. Youll need to be able to look back sometimes.

COLORS. Colors can be customized, i had trouble reading some of the darker ansi, customizing your colors is tricky. These are mine:
hue sat lum red green blue
dark purple, 185 216 120 156 13 242
light purple 197 240 120 236 0 255
grey 84 11 148 153 164 154
dark blue 160 240 100 0 0 213
light blue 160 240 145 53 53 255
dark green 80 240 75 0 159 0
light green 80 240 120 0 255 0
dark cyan 120 240 74 0 157 157
light cyan 120 240 114 0 242 242
dark red 0 240 77 164 0 0
light red 2 226 130 248 39 29
brown 39 238 99 209 204 1
yellow 39 238 139 254 249 41
dull white 160 0 181 192 192 192
bright white 160 0 240 255 255 255

Zmud is pretty amazing, learn to use it.

Changing colors isn't that difficult.

Click view->preferences->colors

Then when the dialog pops up pick foreground mapping in the list on the left. Can just clikc the current color and pick the one you'd prefer off the palette.

The dark blue default is really hard to read, so I always end up lightening it a shade.

I also set the default text color to grey instead of green, which is the same dialog but before you switch it to foreground mapping.

Is there any way to have ZMud keep separate trigger/alias files for different chars on the same mud? I've basically trashed all my ranger triggers because I've been playing my bard lately...

I use 5.55, for different char files for the same mud i create a char file for a different mud then edit it for the mud i want. If i didnt my char files would be sort of linked together or something. Making changes to one changes the othes.

I didnt mean to say customizing colors was hard, i said its tricky to get it to look like whut you want, everything easy to read and also close to default and easily distinguishable.

ALIASES. If youre a caster you should have every spell aliased. You can alias everything, and should. I have aliases for all my spells, some of my skills and things like look in portal, enter portal, drag corpse, anything thats alot of typing and needs to be done quickly. Aliases should be easy to type and remember.

HIGHLIGHTS. Highlights can be great, i use alot of them, some simply for the sack of color coding and some to make certain things stand out so i dont miss them.
#TRIG {sits resting} {#cw 13}
Will make sits resting pink when it occurs.
The colors go from 0-15, 16-31, 32-47 and so on in groups of 15 or 16. There are thousands of different highlights, some are very cool, play with them.

SPEEDWALKING. The period is the default speedwalk char, type, .12nw3n2e7u and hit return and you will run those directions.

COMMAND STACKING. The semi-colon is the default command separator, is great for things like difficult crs. The general rule is if you can get there to die there you can get there to cr, you just need to be smarter the second time in. Locate your corpse and get as close to it as possible, once you are in possision you set up you "command line". Type, search;search;e;n;drag corpse s;drag corpse w
The searches are important, they help to elliminate any lag on your end, by the time youre done searching all of your commands will be in the game. Be sure to do things like max your wimpy or anything else whut will help you, its not %100 youll make it but the odds are pretty good, they get better as you you get better.

DIRECTION PAD. The direction pad is great but it helps to change it some for this mud. I change 7 to stand, 1 to rest/recl/mem/med, 9 to up, 3 to down, 5 to scan and subtract to look. In order for me to do this i needed to alias nw to stand, sw to rest/recl/mem/med, look to scan, ne to up and se to down. The macros would reset themselves to default so the aliases solved that prollem.

File/Saveas ... ALL my chars have their own keysets .. can import/export neat triggers that would be used for all (looters, etc)

Then load each one as befits .... also im a bit simple minded so i make the marco keys i use a LOT the same . but that do different things :

F2- chanter F2 is scale @tank.. elementalist/shaman is stone @tank, cleric is fheal @tank ..

Speedwalk.

In zMud press CTRL+e.

To use, press CTRL+s.

Mapping.

Maps are very powerful. A good trick is to make sure you have a 1line command prompt, then in the map menu choose config, and make new configuration or reconfigure. The mapping becomes better with newer versions of zMud. I currently use 6.62 and here it is fine.

If you know a zone is safe then you can just map without looking, but just moving from room to room. Even if you walk into a room that doesnt map a west entrance, but have one. Move west, and it will display on map correct. If you walk a direction that does not exist press the binocular (look) before moving again.
