Interesting presentation. This guy is imagine us being "watched" even more pervasively than the character's in 1984 were... and for the most part the motivation is all commercial, profit driven... greed.

Every conservative worries about "Big Brother" watching us and controlling us, but how many of you worry when it's private corporations who will be doing it? That's ok, right?

Too funny... a moderately entertaining watch about how technolog will turn life into a game, but barely raises awareness of the underlying issues.

Why do people do wierder and wierder things to rack up meaningless points in a game? Why are people motivated by games and not their actual responsibilities? How we rally against government having our "private" information yet freely give it to everyone else on facebook and google. How someone like me who claims to believe in privacy lays bare all over the forums my views.

Speaking of real life games that states just realized were suckering them into giving up control of their schools... The federal "race to the top" educational grant program. You get points for doing things and if you get enough points you win federal funding for your school. You used to get funding because thats what your taxes were for, now you only get the funding if you win!

"More than two dozen states reapplied Tuesday for millions of dollars in "Race to the Top" education grants, but nine decided to sit out this second round of the competition. "
"The problem is one of the criteria is to adopt a common core set of standards -- academic set of standards -- to get the points you need to be competitive, and we can't do that,"
"We've had a great set of standards here in Virginia for 15 years, and we think that common set of standards ought to be a floor not a ceiling. And they would require us essentially to reduce the quality of Virginia standards, and we just can't do that."
