Germany just paid off the settlement for World War I. Why France thought it was a good idea to impose such crippling restrictions on a nation then expect it to somehow develop a democracy boggles the mind.

When "fairness" creates the Nazi regime, it's not exactly fair, now is it? Is it fair that the children of that generation ended up paying most of the burden? Is it fair to ask that the children of the children of the children of the people be sent to prison for their great grandfather's misdeeds?
