Obama's car analogy

Postby kiryan » Wed Oct 06, 2010 11:47 pm

Scott Brown's campaign.

"You don't want a ride in that truck without knowing where it's going"

“Now, you better check under the hood .... So, look, forget the ads. Everybody can run slick ads. Forget the truck. (Laughter.) Everybody can buy a truck. (Laughter.)”

Shortly afterwards and somewhat regularly since then

“After they drove the car into the ditch, made it as difficult as possible for us to pull it back, now they want to keys back. No! You can’t drive. We don’t want to have to go back into the ditch. We just got the car out.”

DNC response to Newt Gingrich calling them Democrats the party of food stamps and Republicans as the party of paychecks.

Hari Sevugan, press secretary for the Democratic National Committee, said Democrats are pulling the country "out of the deep ditch" the current administration inherited from a Republican White House.

I don't understand why Obama's keys to the car, ditch analogy doesn't work. Its a piece of pure genius in my opinion. Fits the Democrat narrative perfectly. Takes a pot shot at GOP retiring that tired bush bashing. Casts him and the Democrats as the responsible figures for good governance. Casts the GOP as a bunch of screwups. All without being overtly negative. Everyone should be familiar with the social story of a kid running the car into the ditch. It is really pure genius...but for some reason, it doesn't seem to get any traction.

Is it because its too simple? or he got owned when he introduced it? (Scott Brown, sorry mr president not everyone can buy a truck in this economy?) its a throwback to when trucks were a status symbol before SUVs and more recently the green push? Does he come off as elitist? It must be tapping into the whole "we know whats best for you" animosity people have towards authority?

It should resonate. I don't get it.

It doesn't resonate because only the rich and Obama's friends got a tow and the unemployed middle American is still in the fucking ditch. Finally, we've had a DEMOCRAT congress for the last 4 years, and a DEMOCRAT president for the last 2 years. In 2006, we were not in the ditch.

All the DNC is doing is shirking responsibility, blaming others for their utter failures. The American public is tired of excuses and deserves more from their government. Wake up Feds, the campaign is over. If you haven't noticed, you have had complete majority power for around 625 days now.

Democrat Party

~600 days of the presidency
~1400 days of a majority in the congress

0 progress for the American people. How are you liking the $1,000 tax the democrats levied against people who don't have health insurance?
