There are some legitimate uses for !ID, but in general using it on a standard item isn't something I particularly like. I don't forsee removign the flag itself, but I'm open to stripping it off of specific equipment that has no legitimate reason to have it. Shall we start a list here?

This is deja vu - You asked for this before. Nothing happened of it.

But, There's all kinds that could benefit from removing the flag.

Zhalatrax's sword (engulfed longsword)...but hell, ALL weapons should be !ID as far as dice.
Was thinking tempus shield is !ID. Why make its weight/stats !ID?

IMHO, anything weapon or shield should be fully known. Save the procs. - If the dice isn't known on the weapon, at least show its average damage. *****

You complete your spell...
You feel informed:
Name 'pointy stabby thing'
Keyword 'stabby stab poker', Item type: WEAPON
Item can be worn on: WIELD
Item will give you following abilities: NOBITS
Item is: MAGIC NO-CLERIC NO-MAGE NOBITS
Weight: 5, Value: 15000
Damage Average is '4.5 hitpoints'
Can affect you as :
Affects : HITROLL By 4
Affects : CON By 13

***********************************

At least offer 'compare' command. Since some shields are !ID, you can easily compare it to other shields' weight. Same with a dagger. 25 coins about is 1 lb in game. You should be able to compare a weapon's weight just the same. That's not possible for !ID

a spiral seashell
a strange bottle of wine
a black and red eyepatch
a green cloak of leaves
an ancient holy bracelet of the Netheril
a blackened and bloodied battlehammer
a glowing periwinkle
the staff of the serpent
a translucent black pyramid with a purple aura
a set of goggles with emerald lenses
a band of red leather
a red leather bracer
some red leather boots
some bloodstained embroidered robes
a pouch of writhing mist
A dagger of oblivion
the bracers of elemental mastery
a low-cut dress of ebon faerie dragon scales
a crown of writhing tentacles of mist
a longsword engulfed in black flames

A large portion of items from UM1 and UM2.

ANYTHING sold in a shop.

anything as far as weapons or shields that should remain !ID?

I'd LOVE to know dice, weights, etc. What floats (oblivion) and what doesn't. No point in finding out the hard way.

a jewelled dagger in the shape of a fang

This item is a little special because it is a dagger, but it has a hold flag if you don't want to wield it.

I also think the YO kirin horn still is !id

The wands, potions, and scrolls in bryn were all made !id for a reason. I'm not overly against them having their !id status removed, although I find it hard to believe that a fairly low level spell can be used to figure out the stats/spell names/ect on anything in the realms, even items that are far more powerful then said low level spell.
Of course, I could also be trying to use logic in a place where we all know logic means nothing, hehe.

I find it hard to believe, just the same, that shopkeepers won't reveal anything of an item's ability other than the (*) Some of those scrolls or wands were nearly 1k plats that were !ID.

Much like how Shev refused to reimb wolfbane pot because it was quaffed while normal and not in wolf mode. Although it wasn't me that it happened to, it seems ungawdly unfair that 10k from such an established player who does nothing but help people. When it was time to help said person, 'tough luck' - boo! Anyway,

'The wands, potions, and scrolls in bryn were all made !id for a reason.'

Thanks for your response.

As I am sure you know these items are all found in shops
in Bryn. In these shops, most if not all of the items are !id.
Can you help me understand the reasoning behind a shop
that sells !id items?

The scene of a customer asking a merchant what he sells
and the merchant shrugging and claiming he/she doesn't know
and still staying in business is silly.

From my perspective far from being !id shop items should
not only be idable but there should be a command added in shops,
that being appraise. Where by for a small fee and i do mean small
the shopkeeper id's the item he is selling.

The shop keeper might very well know what the items do, but might wish to keep the full details of them to himself as to make money off those that are intrigued by their mystery. On the other hand, he could lose money as well because some people aren't willing to take the risk of spending 1k for an armor portion. It could also be that these shopkeepers are just that. They get the goods from an outside source and possibly don't know what the items do. That does happen IRL.

As I said, I'm not adverse to changing them to be id-able. However, most things that cost a good amount of cash are also worth it, or at least I'd hope they were.

Engulfed Longsword:

< 559h/559H 133v/133V >
< P: std > c 'identify' longsword
You start chanting...

< P: std >
Casting: identify *

< 559h/559H 133v/133V >
< P: std >
You complete your spell...
Your senses boggle, as you are unable to identify this item.

Any timeline or yes/no's for items already listed?

Changed a bunch of these. There's a couple I didn't change on purpose (dagger of oblivion for instance) because I think it fits the theme / power of the weapon to leave it boggling your senses.

Also I didn't change potions or scrolls. I agree that there's a bunch of things that should be IDable, but by the same token I'm not going to spend hours changing flags on newbie gear that nobody uses anyways.

That said feel free to post more requests on objects that are still NO_ID.

What about creating a scroll with a greater identify type of spell that would allow you to ID a !ID item? Make it cost quite a bit or put it on a rareload global so they weren't all over the place. Could be a pretty decent plat sink. The only problem, I think, would be that everybody shares every piece of info nowadays, so they'd get used less and less as time goes on.

there's absolutely no point to it as it will just get used for about a month or two then unused till a new noid item comes in.... and it encourages people to keep writing gay !id items which is what we're trying to avoid. only items that should be !id are items flagged as switches/portals and the like with no extra stats... preferably only the !take ones.
if you make a weapon and want people to have to figure out the keyword for proc or when it procs just dont add it to the id list codewise.
if you want people not to locate your item give it a single common keyword or just flag it !locate. period
