Hospital in Chicago cutting emergency services

Postby kiryan » Thu Jan 13, 2011 6:43 pm

Chicago hospital cutting back on emergency services, specifically ambulance services. You'll see more and more of this. Its getting too expensive to have an emergency room, to give away free care.

I'll blame the law passed 20 years ago that requried emergency rooms to treat people regardless of ability to pay (if the accept medicare). You could counter that with healthcare reform law, there won't be anyone who doesn't have the ability to pay because we'll all have health insurance... but you and I both know that poor people aren't going to buy insurance and the medicare/medicaid will be the ones who pick up the bill (as they currently do very inadequately which is the reason for this problem in the first place).
