2 women cited for being in a park unaccompanied by a child while sitting on a bench and eating donuts.

a sign was posted, the question is why do free men and women tolerate crap like this. Pedophiles? There are pedophiles ALL around us. There are sex offenders ALL around us. More resrtictions on your freedom in an effort to "protect" you better. Way to go.

Probably because it was what they asked for. I understand that you're against government regulation on principle, but there are many regulations, rules, etc., that enjoy the support of a significant majority of people in addition to having a virtual absence of opponents.

The ticket is arguably heavy-handed enforcement, but the article isn't pointing to a trend or a rash of such incidents. The mismanagement of the NYPD is not new news, but it's notoriously hard to hold large police forces accountable and ensure they're actually doing something during the day.

Really, this is just big city life. It's stupid, and the park is probably known among the police officers as a good place to "make up for a slow day."

Simply put, this is traffic in the highway of life.

who asked for it? The vote of the public or some administrator in the parks office / city council.

again, why do free people put up with this crap. its supposed to be our lands, not our lands set aside for xyz group to have exclusive preferred access subsidized by our tax $$.

Unless it's a Republican politician, right? Then "free speech zones" are de rigeur!

Free speech zones are setup specifically to prevent elitist mobs from denying normal access to public and private spaces. The difference is wider than perhaps your world view.
