New character class--Alchemist

Postby Birile » Wed Apr 30, 2003 7:12 pm

I think this class would absolutely rock. Mixing potions, using 'em, using magical stones... Casting spells to change matter, etc. maybe even enchanting weapons/armor a little (temporarily?). Could be a semi-hitter class like the bards, as well, and have rudimentary healing/enchant-type spells.

Thoughts?

Anyone know of any muds that tried or did or still do use spell components for mage classes? :?:

I think one reason why this mud stays away from brewing potions and scribing scrolls like other muds is that people will twink it. I've been on other muds before where people just constantly quaff healing potions during combat to stay alive, so there is no need for groups anymore, it's just all solo work. Scribing spell scrolls and making potions will only allow players to hoard these items and use them when they want to. Even if a monetary cost is implemented to make these items, plat is abundant at higher levels which nullifies the cost. I do think that scribing and brewing would be nice, but it's just too twinkable. I want this mud to stay cool and group orientated. It got boring fast just slaughtering everything in sight solo and quaffing potion after potion.

Thats there is the 3 potions per day (24 min) limit on the mud ;) While I don't think a new class is needed due to the size of the playerbase, having little quests or stuff to make minor magical potions and let certain magical wands to be recharges would be really cool. There was something a while ago about some mix skill for shaman, but nothing really happened with it. could've been neat to let them make little things like remove poison potions etc.

A new class is exactly what the mud does not need now.

Sojourn needs fewer mage classes, not more.
