Spell Crits

I know a lot of you will probably cringe at this, seeing as how the conversation with invokers is currently going, but has there ever been any thought to spell crits? I know by definition a "critical hit" can't exactly be a spell, but what about "superior success" or something. What if you're having a really good day and you cast a spell SO well that you manage to get an extra few minutes of duration, or a little extra damage, or maybe more protection, or summon a better undead/elemental, or pull off a more substancial heal. For the most part I'd see this taking place mostly in combat spells, like zapping someone in the eye with a magic missile *zot*, but It'd be cool to see in all spells.

Thoughts?

its called failing your saving throw vs spell. it happens more often then you'd think.

Izzy, who is admittedly curious to see a troll caught in a critical inferno...
