I later found out that no one in the group got exp. My final slash killed it, but I was technically one room west.

I've seen this one before doing spirit raven exp on the battle-mage. It definately has to do with message from shield. The one I saw the person was burned on the final slash on the mob and fled due to wimpy. He took the exp with him... we had a good laugh.
