Practicing Disarm Traps

Postby gnerble » Mon Feb 04, 2002 7:31 pm

Been searching for the "easy" place to practice detect/disarm traps in the XP grid that's supposed to be for goodies but I haven't found it.

I decided to use the area in the new zone off of Dragon Trail.. There is a quest there to get some boxes to practice on..

Here is a desc of the box...

< 321h/430H 116v/116V >
<> exa box
This box is a training tool used by the Shadow Thieves. Each box contains
a slightly smaller box with a slightly more complex trap.

The first boxes there do 50-100 hps of damage if you set them off. At least rogues get the heal spell so we can heal ourselves.

The second boxes give this result...

< 340h/430H 116v/116V >
<> You have learned something new about disarm trap!
You trigger a trap on a small puzzle box!
A tiny needle shoots forth from a small puzzle box, piercing you in the neck!
You shudder in pain as the toxins flows through you..

< 340h/430H 116v/116V >
<>
The poison burns in your veins, and you feel weaker.

< 297h/430H 116v/116V >
<>
A light snow is being tossed about by a fierce wind.

< 300h/430H 116v/116V >
<>
The poison burns in your veins, and you feel weaker.

< 258h/430H 116v/116V >

Needless to say, I died. I think this is a little too extreme for trap poison. Especially for practice. No wonder I haven't seen any shadow thieves, they are all FREAKIN DEAD from practice.

Detect Trap can be used every 10 seconds. It notches nicely. Disarm Trap can be used every 30 seconds and notches HORRIBLY. It takes about 20-30 practices to notch it. My skill atm is 57, and I'm a halfling with 110 dex.

I'd like to see something done about the lag or skill associated with disarm tram.

Thank you drive through!

I'll tone down those in Neshkal.

And the crypts with traps off the exp. grids are much more forgiving. Ask around I am fairly sure that at least one of your fellow rogues has found them.

I'm glad I had a druid handy when I found and quested those traps. I was sort of sad that there was nothing in the boxes to show for my success in disarming them..

No kidding Yaya, all that hassle for !rent puzzle boxes?

For some reason my disarmtrap notches faster than my detecttrap. Twice as fast the other day, actually.

Gnerble, when you practice in the trap zonelet, be prepared to do several, if not tens of thousands of detects and disarms to max your skills.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah, did I not mention that was over four hours of straight detect/disarm, and only two notches on detect? My trap skills still bite, too. 93 int/86 wis, max dex. Erk.
