melee mobs \"all knowing

Postby Zoldren » Tue May 21, 2002 1:27 pm

How is it melee mobs "know" what spell your casting (if its offensive) and 7/10 times beat your arse before you finish casting the spell?

kinda silly, casting a 9th/10th circle spell and a level 35 and lower !caster mob can tell what spell i am casting and attack me Image

That's an offensive weapon, that is!

*Mob starts casting a spell*
*Mob starts casting an offensive spell*
*PC starts casting a spell*
*PC starts casting an offensive spell*

mobs can tell when spells are targeted at them in a room of mobs how nice....Thanks Daz would never have known that, remind me not to cast offensively in a room w/more than one mob ever again!

I think what zoldren is trying to say is that a !casting mob would never know if what spell is being cast is actually offensive or not...to them it is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo and gibberish; therefor, the mob would not attack...or shouldn't anyway.

if a mob casts an offensive spell in the room i am in, i will assume it is targeted at me (*see -offensive- above*) and i am going to bash his ass.

not valid point daz if that was the case, any offensive target spell you casnt in room full of mobs, they would all kick your ass...

hmmm, good points zoldren. mobs don't always recognize offensive spells. at least mephits don't do it 100% of the time, prolly like 80% and they are 50+.

There are skills called "Sorcerous spell knowledge" and "Clerical Spell Knowledge". If you don't have these skills (as a PC) the chances of you seeing if the spell is offensive or not are low. . .and actually seeing what spell is coming is nearly impossible.

Playing my warrior I can't recall ever seeing 'offensive' or whatnot. As a ranger I have boths skills, and I often see what spells the mobs are casting.

Perhaps all mobs have these skills. Perhaps All players do, to some extent as well. This could be an interesting dimension of the game to explore for tweaking.

Certainly, a warrior (mob too) has no magical training to draw upon in order to recognize a spell for what is is: offensive or defensive or misc.
