up to this tombs roof. Intricate carvings of sinister looking creatures
are stacked one upon the other in this awesome pillar. Brown smudges
of mud streak across the parts of the white marble floor, as if something
were dragged into the building. Off to one side of the entrance are
several piles of debris. The piles could be reagents for some sort
of mystical experiment as they are composed of wood, bone, and dirt.

A papyrus scroll spellbook has been left here.
Corpse of Evis is lying here.
A hairless black undead squirrel is wandering about.

You flee westward!

This is after getting killed by the squirrel.

Come on. My stats are STR: mighty Dex ave agil ave Con Hero Int Perf

and I can't kill a rat in two runs!

I will never leave bloodstone because i wont be able to get any cash and will die from lack of food.

Try the women and children in the houses just to the north of the necromancer's guild, or the fish in the pool Image

didnt realize i did.

There were a couple times that i thought i had it killed and forgot magic missile to mem pres.

Since you have to pres the corpse like 5 times to have any useful life on it and then you have to animate it (all of which take 28 secs to mem mind you) every second counts.

Lol lots of fun

thanks for the fish advice cherzra

Why bother animating?

I got to level 6 without my skeleton ever hitting the mob I was tanking. And they die in two hits from most level 5 mobs, so they're useless as tanks. Zombies are no better. They have 15 hit points also, and no hitting power. The third pets at least have 100 hit points, but they have what seems like +100AC and no hitting ability.

I gave up after that.

1. I will probably be looking at the low-end necro pets sometime soon. The scenario is far better than when I modded them (didn't get any pets until 11th level, first caster pet at 31 instead of 16), but wanna make sure it's where it needs to be.

2. Necro pets at that level are best for throwing in front of the mob and dropping nukes on the mob. Helps if you're not fighting a warrior mob that switches, obviously.

3. The shadows you get at 16th are incredible (there are tactics that work with them quite well, ask a higher-level necro).

I always enjoyed the fact that leveling a caster in general, was more difficult than hitter type classes. The payoffs in the end justify the hardships at the begining. I challenge anyone to roll up a first level mage of any type and attempt solo level with newbie eq. It can be done... however takes a lot more time and effort than other classes. Image

Yeah, you are telling me! I rolled an invoker, and in as much time as it took me to get this guy to lvl 16, my paly would get up to lvl 25 or so. This is much harder than a tanking class.

Easy.

Bah we all know why there aren't many Necromancers pouring out of Bloodstone these days. Evil Necromancers rock the game hardcore. Goodie necromancers get the crap kicked out of em for entering goodie hometowns with their pets in tow. Major goodie suckage.

The shadows we get at 16th are incredible? I havent really been able to accomplish much with the shadows at all...and the ghoul and wight are practically identical, heck the ghoul might be a little better. Ive tried on many an occasion to do well with my necro, and always end up frustrated at just how quickly my undead die.

Found the solution to playing a low level necro...

I rolled up a bard, gave him my level 30 rog gear and solo'd him to level 12 in about the same time it took me to get the necro to level 2 with newbie gear.

While I appreciate the challange of leveling a caster I already have a shaman and that was hard enough (which I know is easy compared to the true caster types).

Well off to sing some more mobs to death (with my voice it won't be difficult!)

Iyachtu:

I often found it completely pointless to animate, particularly before level 10. To animate a corpse for any length of time, you need to spend 30+ seconds memming an animate spell, and 20+ seconds per preserve. Then if you want to load up on nukes, you mem all over again to forget the animate and preserve and mem your chills and missiles. After 60-90 seconds of memming at the very least, you're ready to go with a skeleton or zombie who typically dies by the fourth round of combat.

I found it much more time economical to just suck up the damage and tank myself. Flee/nuking on slightly higher mobs is FAR faster than spending the time to animate. Like I said, I never made it to 16 so I can't speak for shadows.

Honestly speaking, it's cool that they have pets from level 1. But seen from a time-efficiency perspective, right now it's faster to play them as if they didn't have pets.

All mage types are not really worth casting spells below level 5 (with the possible exception of chill touch on an invoker), just use your dagger and flee like mad.

You can level once per 4-6 RL hours solo under level 11 if you're good at playing casters, every 8 hours or so per level solo after that if you know where to go.
