Surprise and Aggressive..lil Redundant?

Postby Ensis » Mon Aug 05, 2002 2:05 am

<B>SURPRISE
Reflexive skill.

Class/Level: Ranger 15th

High proficiency at this skill increases the odds of first hit on an
opponent.</B>

It doesn't state it, but I'm fairly sure this means in terms of aggressive mobs.

<B>AGGR AGGRESSIVE

"Aggr" lets you make yourself aggressive to aggressive monsters,
meaning you will automatically attack them first when you enter a
room or when an aggressive monster walks in on you.

Syntax:
> aggr : Check aggressiveness
> aggr off : Turn off aggressiveness
> aggr 120 : You will only be aggressive to monsters when
: your hitpoints >= 120

NOTE: Paladins may *not* have this option set to ON, as it goes
against all their training and principles. Antipaladins are permanently
aggressive.

This looks like Surprise, only its a tog instead of a skill.

Not trying to bitch, and certainly am not trying to make more work for the already overworked coders Image but could this be looked into?

I don't really know how surprise could be changed to be made more unique, and I'm not looking to get aggressive removed from PC's.

PS- Pallys CAN turn aggressive on.

It is my belief that the Surprise skill actually complements the Aggressive toggle, allowing the classes with the Surprise skill a better chance to intercept mobs with Aggressive.

Now, why a sane person with this skill, considering they're either a ranger or dire raider, would want to intercept over a warrior I dunno, but I seem to jump on mobs faster than other classes do.

P.S. I have not yet found any way to notch this skill through use either.

I thought surprise was never actually implemented? Well, was told this last wipe by another ranger at least... heh.

The way I see it happening, surprise gives you a bonus to your FIRST hit on a mob.

When you type kill <mob> it says check surprise skill you get bonus 20 to hit or something.

I could be off though, but I always thought that is what it was for...

Heh... a better question might be has anyone ever notched surprise _at all_? If you have, let us know so we know how it works at least. Image
