What are our storage limits?

Postby Yarash » Wed Oct 30, 2002 8:04 am

This is another question that maybe is best answered by the imms, though perhaps some players know more than me.

When a person has too many items, you cannot save. (Please see: http://www.sojourn3.org/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001971.html )

This happened to me today, the second time ever. Since they were all my own items, I was able to take the time to figure out exactly how many items I was limited to. The figure I came up with was 581 items were safe, with 582 or more I could not save.

Now here's where it gets interesting. I've heard stories of people with 5k, or even upwards of 10k goodberries. I talked to the druid Ionari tonight, who currently has about 600 berries, and at one time had 3k. So it appears that the limit is different for different people, or perhaps based on the type of items, or how you group them. So my question to the imms (or anyone who can provide info) is, what is the maximum amount we can rent? What is the maximum amount we can have in our storage cache? (see next paragraph) How does this all work?

It should also be noted that the rent equipment and cache equipment appear to be in different files, as I was able to dump excess items into my cache and was able to save again.

its not number of items :P its the size of your pfile, etc.

some items may take more space than others, containers may play a role, etc :P

Written notes take a HUGE amount of your pfile space. It doesn't take many personalized invitations or cutesy notes to toss you over into pfile oblivion.

Yarash, having 2 or 2000 goodberries doesn't make much of a difference in your pfile size. They're all the same thing.

If I had to guess, I would say that your player-file looks a bit like this. (GUESS)

Players name~
items vnum~
number of that item~
if it is a non standard item, here would
be the description or odd flags, I.E. if
you have a string badge it would have to
save that here, or if you have a long note.

So the number of the item probably isnt that
important... your pfile is not a bag into
which things are poured, it is like a novel
that describes your character...

I have a question that might sound dumb, but I am going to ask it nonetheless.

Why can you go to a bank in WD, then run to leuth, and BS, and access it... But yet storage (which I personally akin to a bank for items) is one town only?

Is there that big of a balance issue allowing it as a universal storage?
