Way of the Faerie
This is the Way of the Faerie. The Way is a wide avenue of
haphazardly placed stone going through the magical forest of the fays.
Many creatures of magic pass around you while traveling the Way. To
the northeast you can see a large hill rising out of the towering
trees. The Way leads north and south from here.
- North - South
*A little hob is here skipping about.
A water mephit flies in from the north.

A Choice of Directions
This is the Way of the Faerie. The Way is a wide avenue of
haphazardly placed stone going through the magical forest of the fays.
There is a large hill rising up to the northeast of here. The Way
continues east, skirting the roots of the hill. To the north a
footpath into the forest begins; it looks like it might lead up the
hill. In pondering your choice of direction you notice a human
adventurer resting to the side of the Way... perhaps this kindred
soul could be of some help.
- North - East - South
[2] Corpse of an earth mephit is lying here.
Corpse of a short, swarthy faerie is lying here.
Corpse of Suimar is lying here.
Finn, adventurer of legendary fame is resting here on the road, smiling at you.
A water mephit flies in from the south.

This issue is related to several others in that the duration of a 'tick' depends on timing. For the time stop spell, I wrote code to allow for durations in smaller increments, and thus the duration is quite specific (though it is affected by a random roll based on a skill).
At some point I'm going to look into expanding this system so it can be used for more than just that one spell (I think it's used on ancestral shield too, if I recall).
It just doesn't come up on spells that last 5 minutes, for instance, since unless you're specifically timing it, it doesn't appear to be all that 'random' (it isn't random, it's systematic in reality - just odd).

Think of it this way, if I look at the digital clock on my cable box, and it says 10:36... how long will it be before it changes to 10:37? It'll probably average around 30 seconds, but sometimes it'll be 1 second, and sometimes 60.
It'll be a much more noticable variation in time on something that's say 2 minutes (could happen between 61-120 seconds) than say a 10 minute thing (541-600 seconds).
Using a minute timer on a 15 minute spell is fine (keep in mind that second timers create much more overhead). It gets hairy when you're talking about 1-3 minute durations, basically.
