Top 5 Features You\'d Like To See

If youd pick five new features that you wish the MUD had, what would they be? I'm not talking Class related things here - no skills/spells - but features that would make your life easier, enhance your gameplay experience, etc.

* Being able to prioritize while memming.

* A "showtell", that lists the last about 5 tells you've recieved. (yes, this can be done in most clients, but when you telnet, you're fucked.)

* Myth Unnohyr getting an overview.

I'd like to also see blocking code made 'smart'.

Oh yah, and a command that tog's your pet from following, not your PC followers..

Hmm... What I can think of at the moment:

Could mlist please numerate with newest postings having the biggest number? I hate doing mlist, and mread 1 and then to see I have gotten a new message right before I press enter after typing mdel 1... (Not that it have happened more than once, but anyway...)

Could (a little) higher level people be allowed to watch the NHC (watch, not answer, or ask, just watch). Sometimes people ask things I never thought I wondered :]

Able to find out in which rooms you have corpses... (the roomnames or something) And perhaps for you to see how long until they rot... *whistle*

Oh, yeah, prioritize while memming would be great Image And while on memming... Able to toggle hungry/thirsty on in the prompt...

To extend a bit on Jegzed's "showtell":

A show command that lists the last 5 messages in any of the following things:


It would just make life easier, no particular benefits beyond that :-)

Lower Emphasis on HP, higher emphasis on skills.

(bending the rules slightly here).

Prio while memming would absolutely rock.

An abreviated group display.

For instance, I am in a group with 14 other people. I would like to be able to type "group Gruld, Turxx, Zorx, Grorrak" and get a standard group listing that shows exclusively those four people.

Oh, did I mention I play a cleric? Image

A who list that lists those who are anon, invis, or in daylight.

Items going into a bag on ground instead of bag in inventory issue resolved.

Toggle to have people with low hps in group display highlighted, similar to how your own hps change color, but maybe more colors. Image

Low level mobs having slowed regen rate.

Some way to see how long a corpse is preserved.

Ability to do a 'mmail assoc' or something to send to all guild members.

1) Abdication of group leadership to another player.

2) Removal or lowering of ress effects.

Level Loss:
3) Remove skill loss.
4) Remove max hp loss.

5) Lich hometown: Drow and Yuan live in bloodstone. Change to racial hometowns.

I know it said 5, but I have some additional things:
Remove level lock. Level keys (min level) are fine, but locks are bad.
Fix up blocking code.
Repair the theme of Muspelheim and that silk eye-tattoo.
Be able to see when you get lycanthropy.
Add who rp.
Add a way to see how long a corpse has before it rots.

3) consent allowing small race rogues (little tiny drows and elves) to drag phat asses (barb/dorf/ogre) *hug Stabby*

5) split back the way it used to be instead of leader only (split coins)

1) Empty 1.bag 2.bag
2) Quest mobs that will give you back any item that is not in their quest entry commands, and bowing to any quest mob makes it consent you.
4) Lower or no ress effects
5) I would like to see some skills that you can go out and quest for. Things like CAMPFIRE, SKIN and PREPARE animal hides, SMITHING, HUNTING, etc. Things that have little useful purpose but RP. CAMPFIRE makes it light room area message that smoke rises up if you fail it, skin hides makes it so you can hunt(another skill) and prepare the hides for sale or clothing (few gold each, nothing tangible), SMITHING could make slightly custom weapons from a list, a (dwarven/elven/barbarian/drow/etc)
a dwarven heavy hammer
an elven iron axe, etc. etc.
_Intangible_ skills, (they have little or no tangible bonus) that are FUN to have, that you have to go out and LEARN to do! You dont get them to start!

- wh player_grou to display who is grouped with that player

- impending corpse rot indicator - perhaps the preserve fades and therefore the (magic) flag on the long description disappears

-ability to buy tea from Pawldo restored

-a board where people can ask questions of the type found on nhc, to receive answers from anyone, so those of too high a level to use nhc still have access to information

-ATM's in inns - the innkeepers could use runners to handle bank transactions for you, so you could move money between your various characters without having to appear to multiplay - also good for exchanging money in a place where emotes aren't possible.

1) Guild MOTD

2) Corpse Rot - You should be able to look into your OWN corpse and tell how much time you have left before it rots. Possibly have it so Cleric and Lich, at level 50, can look into all corpses and see how long is left on them before they rot.. Not necessarily a skill, but a bonus or something.

3) Multiple Mudmails - Not necessarily a guild only command. Everybody should be able to use it.

4) Group display - Elseenas has a good idea here... to be able to type something along the lines of grouped warrior and only see the warriors in group and their conditions, have it work for each class.. I have group condition triggers which highlight in different colors who needs what ammount of healing but this would cut down on the spam a little.. and for those who dont have triggers or telnet in ... well it could help them alot in a zone situation...

5) Guild Halls - There are plenty of guilds around, most of which have been around for a good long while.. If the code isnt ready to go in full force how bout considering just givinig us the option to buy an inn/commons room..

1 - An automated or God-run Acheron Quest system (mass combat, ladder quests, etc).

2 - Removal of spells coming into Acheron

3 - Take away potions in Acheron

4 - A bit of class balance w/in Acheron (anyone should have at least a CHANCE to beat anyone else in a properly balanced environment, even if a warrior will beat a mage 8 times out of 10, with a chance - it gives the mages something to work towards.)

5 - I wanna actually play AS a dragon. I always have, always will. Maybe it's just me.

EM quests fixed or restored or whatever it takes to get them back in the game. Elder Forest, Faerie Forest, Oberon's Tomb, the farmer... you know, all of EM.

Fix old code issues that have bothered me literally for years:

1. Allow us to interact with equipment in bags we are holding. I got tired of having to remove my buckskin pack to get a drink 5 years ago.

2. Add an "on back" equipment slot for backpacks... most other muds I've played on don't make you choose between backpack and cloak for about body. Good for newbies who need the weight reduction of wearing their pack, inconsequential at high levels as long as you don't make backpacks with good stats. Alternately, change the quiver slot to "on back" and let us wear backpacks there as well as quivers.

3. Add a way to get from the north gate of WD to the east gate without having to go through the mountains. A short path like the one between north and west would be perfect. Ditto for south gates.

4. Oh my dear lord remove the wandering craftsman or do something about the related shopkeeper bug Image

5. Have a coder take a day and fix the various typos that pervade the code. Fix the bad line breaks on the spells, fix bad color codes, add periods to the combat messages that don't have them, that sort of thing. General cleanup of the display. It really goes a long way in making the mud look totally professional to a newbie.

How about "who lead" showing only people who are holding groups. Its anoying for all when 3 people in the same group get asked if theres room for another.

Trying to touch on things others haven't already said . . .

1) A reload command for ranged that lets you move arrows between quivers.

2) Being able to land when flying or levved from a spell to drag corpses or enter !fly rooms and being able to get off the ground after if the spell is still active.

3) Being able to tell how heavy a bag is without using an ID scroll.

4) The ability to create lockable wooden boxes.

5) A "I blame D2" social.

You fire a black-shafted elven arrow to the east at Gormal's pet goat with masterful shooting that does lethal damage!

1. Revamp Waterdeep so that it is as glorious as it should be.

2. Drag while flying.

3. Each player can write an RP story in order to get a restring.

4. Change justice so that the RDF's just kill the offender, or make it so that when the person got to jail, they were shackled.

5. Definitely guildhalls- I've been saving up a lot of scratch for these.

3. Non guilded characters ("alts") to be able to see the Assoc Chat Channel.. since they can't guild into any other organization.

4. Please make a shop or a black market or something where we can pawn items for a reasonable value! For example.. dwarven scale mail armor... 4 gold in a shop? Is someone insane?! Items like this may not be worth thousands and thousands to another player but should be worth more than 4 gold to even a shop keeper.

5. Please fix fly or make certain rooms more 3 dimensional... After all if we can travel the planes, slay dragons, and conjure the most powerful majiks. Why in the name of all that's holy can't we fly over the locked gates of waterdeep?

And i'd like to make a specific note on redoing some spell messages. Hell us players can do that for you, just give us the word.

4) Remove skill lose upon level lose (at least for someone who's hit level 50). I've rescued thousands of times since tiamat, and i still havn't remax'd it.

5) Drag while flying

Make it so Mask is wearable. at mask wear mask.

Make Miax tells us all what he's always doing when he's AFK (kids, wife and work? yeah right!)

Teach Erevan how to use ansi, normalized colors hurt my eyes.

Make D2 type in pink rather than red.

Remove D2's ability to kill on site.

Remove Kia's ability to kill on site.

Give me the ability to kill on site.

Rename Kia to Yondalla, the halfling goddess of fertility.

Imp restraining orders.

Tweak Garg's sense of humor (ouch ouch ouch).

Make Cyric prove he exists.

Rename Tiamat to Gwark.

Upgrade Gwark.

Downgrade Rangers.

Keep the evil man down.

1) friendlier character roller - all the arguments have been made, but asking any new player in these days of quick immersion MMORPG's to play our game is hard since they cant get in the front door with a character they will be happy with in the long run

2) better newbie gear

3) better eq drops at the lower levels

4) group xp bonus - more in group, more xp mob gives to distribute

5) halve xp penalty levels 40+

1- Modification to the character rolling code that will bias the rolls a little more closely to what should be acceptable for the class you are rolling. I just hate rolling up a paladin and getting rolls that have bad agility, mundane con, and heroic int.

2- Revive the economy so plat coins can actually buy something in the player market. If this means guild halls, heinously expensive but useful items in shops, or quests that require plats I'm not picky. But when ding-dongs like me are sitting on thousands of plat coins, there is something wrong with the world.

3- Better equipment for new players, or at least some better basic equipment available at the shops.

4- More signs and stuff to guide people around the realms. A major intersection like the Road Crossing north of WD should have a carved stone or some such indicating what is in the different directions. (This won't help me, I have all the mundane places mapped, but it will help newer players.)

5- Roll on with the zone revamps. I've been poking through some of these zones since late 1995 and it is great to see them updated!

Honorable mention: zones that restrict high level players from entering a nuking the whole place.

1) Let alts be able to use ACC. Maybe be able to designate yer alt and it shows up on assoc like:

o Hoppil |Member| Alt: Boogerman

2) Let rogues drag corpses regardless of weight. I cant even drag my own corpse Image

3) Guildhalls

4) Being able to examine only your own corpse to see how long till rot, and give clerics/shaman/necro this ability for all corpses.

5) Guild MOTD.

1. make planar zones (except for smoke) never repop. also some mobs like dynamic dragons in muspelheim !repop. !repop helps when cring and isn't a real challenge, just an annoyance.
2. make some things !repop like the ghosts in hulburg and the hulk b4 the astereater and some of the beholders. i can understand reinforcements but damn where are they all coming from?
3. make hulburg repop in an hour, 30 min is too fast and just makes people wait for repop (sometimes).
4. make global loads not load in dangerous zones and zones off prime. i doubt a gypsy would really be travelling in muspelheim
5. get rid of ub3r rareloads needed for quests.

Lower the time of ress effect, make it so it will still keep people from ressing and standing up and fighting but make it so it doesnt bring a raid to a grinding halt.

Make all mounts immune to all forms of damage.

Be able to put cursed items in bags just not be able to give the bag away if there is a cursed item in it - You try to give the bag to soandso but cant, there must be a cursed item inside!

fix the billion year old bug of spells leaving mem list if you rent without having them actually memorized, not all spells do this, just a few.

Keep list of spells to mem after death just make them all un-memed, pain in the butt to sit down and remember everything you had memed if you dont have a macro for it.

1. Allow corpses to be dragged by a mount via a litter or something

2. Guild MOTD

3. Prioritize while memming/praying

4. Make it so that when you are FLYING you don't have to recline/kill to get by a mob that is out in the open (stupid squirrels between BG and DK, or Stupid goats on the way to BS from WD for example)

5. This too

(Edit: This makes six, but make a who switch that lets you see guilded players only. IE: who good guild)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far - one of them has made it into the mud already (appoint group leader), and more will be coming soon as I get all of this evaluated. Image

think small votes:

1) alts guild or at least able to use and hear ACC
2) the inconsistency between commands and containers on the ground, in your inventory, and worn. ie put twilight bag will put twilight in a bag on the ground but l in bag will look in a bag your holding, and if your not holding one then in your inventory, and if no bag in your inventory then finally a bag on the ground.
3) cursed/!drop stuff in your inventory. weapons in particular get ridiculously cumbersome and spammy in your inventory.
4) getting corpses out of !ground / drag while flying or a carry command or something
5) review of cursed, no drop, transient, !id. especially the combo of transient + cursed or !drop and especially !id.
6) remove max hp loss
7) remove skill loss... in particular for quest skills.

While people are mentioning zones and such, what about those awesome looking class-specific item quests in UD or whatever...or has that already been taken care of?

My votes would go for:

1) Guild MOTD

2) Abdicate group leadership to another

3) Removal of skill loss on level loss.

4) Ability to do a more accurate look into your bag. e.g.
examine bag vial - returns all items with keyword vial that are in the bag

5) Make weapons have slots for applying poison so that I can apply poison to both of my kirin horns without having to remove them:
apply poison 1.weapon - applies poison to whatever is in the primary slot
apply poison 2.weapon - applies poison to whatever is in the secondary slot
It doesn't have to be exactly these commands, but some way to do this would be nice.

1) Name Completion(Dalar already stated this, it's stock in circle I believe, and insanely useful)

2) Give all.x person

3) Toggle for leaders that won't tog pets(only PC's)

4) Fly-drag for corpses

5) Guild MOTD/mmail to mutiple recipients

Think big ideas... all of which came from the ideas section of the bbs *stare*

1) Add some more depth to light and dark. You can either see or not see and occasionally red shapes. Add varying degrees of light and darkness (blindness) and have it affect combat. Reconsider how pervasive magical light is and how effective things like lit quivers on your back aid you as well as why 15-20 light sources in a room isn't borderline line blinding.

2) Add the ability to describe the other senses, like sound and smell, at varying levels for mobs, rooms, and zones. The levels would range from automatically sensed on entry to very difficult to sense like a pin dropping or the faint odor of an odorless gas =). This would also be dependent on class and race. Ogres would have a harder time hearing a pin drop than an human, but might be a lot better at catching the faint scent of blood or fire in the wind. Add the command "sense" (think search) to attempt to perceive these extra hints/effects... If you are blind, make it automatic !lag sense on entry with a slight bonus to detection.

3) dragons.
I'd love to see the dragon AI spiffed up. EQ poofing != hard, it is lame. Lets give dragons some oomph that isn't too twinky. Especially I think we should consider giving them some single target attacks that are very significant and used in the appropriate situation to help prevent the small group twinking (like 2 or 3) and occasionally cause some havoc in larger groups. Also, I'd be nice to see some effects on their breath weapons that scale with level. As it is, breath weapons are 0 casting time 1/3 strength clouds that nuke eq when your stupid... shouldn't it have a little something extra if its gonna do that little damage? Examples, cold breath para, fire breath blind, lightning breath stun

4) weapons and combat
Make them more than dice/dam and procs. blunts doing better damage on skeletons and hard surfaced or very solid mobs (iron golem), slashers doing better damage on normal mobs and perhaps increase chance of parry. Perhaps whips some very small chance to do something neat like trip or disarm. Perhaps daggers would have a higher chance of succeeding on double attack and dual wield in addition to riposte (maybe parry also). Also please give a bigger distinction to 2h and 1h weapons by perhaps lowering the rates of double attack when 2h (or increasing the rate for 1h weapons) and probably decrease the rate at which you parry/riposte. All of these suggestions should be implemented without reducing absolute damage output. I really don't think melee damage at a class level needs a downgrade at the moment but some depth and variety would be uber.

5) adding depth to races
Umm this link pretty much says it all. descriptions tailored to races. ogres see more shinies, elves see more intricately carved sparkling doodads with hints of beige.
