Sounds in the night.
A little girl escaping her plight.

Her mother's scent lingers on her face,
her arms still warm from her father's embrace.
They bid farewell, the only way,
they could not wait the break of day.

Hands join...
Eyes lift...
A promise made in hearts and minds,
a daughter they cannot let them find.

He holds her close, he strokes her hair,
she breathes his scent upon the air.
Their hearts are joined, their minds take flight
to the little girl out in the night.

Troops march...
Drums sound...
The Demon's horde comes into sight.
Their eyes flash white against the night.

Though they were few, and thier foes were great,
they chose that they controlled their fate.
Hands clasped tight, love shined in their eyes,
As they both called down clouds from the skies.

Fire decends...
Screams ring...
Heart rend in two, she hits the forest floor.
Bereft of her parents forevermore.

A whispered speech runs through the trees,
for the grieving child upon its knees.
The child looks up, tears run down her face.
An innocent, by the trees, was given grace.

Heartache...
Comfort...
Into the heart of the trees she crept.
Within an oak, the Forest Child wept.
